What is this 'P' on the multi-display?
I just noticed this P on the display from 0 - 20mph. I can't seem to find any reference to it in the manual, is it something to do with Parktronic? or the Parking sensors or something??

Thanks guys. I didn't think this car had any of those fancy-schmancy parking systems as I didn't opt for the "Drivers Assistance Package". I guess i should read my manual a bit more

I had the same question! I don't think it has to do with parktronic because those light up when they are functional.
Btw I love the hold feature for stop lights so your foot doesn't get tired holding the brake.

Geez guys read the manual! Mine parks itself quite well. Nice bonus that the new E63 will also park perpendicular to the street, not just parallel. Used that feature just yesterday in a tight spot.
When the P comes on, it's merely searching. If it finds a spot on the right, a little right arrow comes on near the P. Then you need to put it in Reverse, at which point it asks if you want it to auto-park itself. If you want a spot on the left, you have to turn your left blinker on, or it won't give you a left arrow. And follow the prompts because it often tells you to switch between Reverse and Drive.

On my S you don't need to do the blinker. Just find a spot pull close to it, drive slowly from start of spot to end and you should see an arrow pointing to the right next to the P. Once you have completely passed the spot (it measures to make sure it will fit) if the P is filled blue (may need the arrow too) you should come to a complete stop, put it in reverse (keep foot on brake) and it should ask if you want it to park itself or if you checked surroundings and you just click OK and it will either guide you or do it urself depending on option.

Really? Thanks man I didn't know that. I will try it on my S. Not too many 1 ways in LA except downtown so I never have to park on left. So I'm guessing in UK or RHD countries it's opposite?

Here's Mercedes' official take on the feature:

And I just could not resist posting this video of BMW dealer demo'ing their version of park assist.
That's pretty nice. Wouldn't cause a problem with traffic ***at all***
Two minutes and fifteen seconds to parallel park a small car in a massive space.

pre 2014 cars could detect a parking spot and guide you to park but in 2014 they can park themselves.

*EDIT* Found it under PARKTRONIC. Huh... I'll try and turn it on. I parallel park every damn day :-/
