tpms questions

im scheduled to change my tires from Pzeros to PSS tomorrow thru americas tire.

i was wondering in regards to our tire monitors, are they pretty standard with other make out there, USually the tire store will say they need to revalve the monitor and make sure the parts are ok, but not necessarily replace them.

anything i need to do? thanks

I don't think anything needs to be done to the TPMS. I had mine rears replaced at TireRack's installation facility at their HQ in Indiana and they didn't mention anything about the TPMS. Thus I'm fairly sure the TPMS don't need to be replaced or else I'm sure they will charge me for them.

If they were working when they took them of they shouldn't need any thing done to them. Tell them you don't want anything done with the sensors. If your still under warranty the dealership will fix them if they should malfunction.

Just tell them not to mess with the sensors or it will void your warranty.

They will probably blow some air on them and claim they have removed some dust, then charge you an arm and a leg for the snake-oil procedure. LOL

The only time they need to re valve your TPMS is when they have to remove it from the rim for any reason. You can not reuse the hex nut and rubber grommet once its been install. Its called a TPMS rebuild kit. That kit comes with a new hex nut, valve core, rubber grommet and cap.

so just got back from getting tires installed and inquired about what it done.

Basically they said that when the tire is removed, there is a risk of the stem of the sensor breaking as the tire is taken off the rim of the wheel....so to prevent this, they remove the hex nut and let the sensor fall in to the wheel to prevent that....
then yes they replace the cap, gromet, and ring...

they state that tpms monitors in general do not have removable batteries...dunno if thats true or not...

Therefore you got charged for the cap, gromet, and ring. Hmm, I didn't get charged for anything additional.

I think he did, but at least he had done his homework before hand. Still, it's no match. The snake-oil salesman triumph again.

That's not unusual most tire place do hit up extra for some kind of tire monitor maintainance. A lot of them try to sell you a whole kit every tire change, it's unreal.
