Let me guess: Must have used a real good X-ray machinery.

What I would do: I don't have such expensive setup and would use a tripod to take pic of the car and then pop the hood to take pic of the engine. The rest is simple cat an paste edit in Photoshop (or similar) with correct transparency. Makes sense?

It's two shots. One with the hood open and without. Blend the two in Photoshop.

Haven't had the car for a week. It's getting some procedures done.

This was the part I was wondering about, more of a what did you use/how to...I bet I can't do it in Aperture 3...

quick google of aperture says no. You need to be able to layer and mask.
