2014 E63S Drag Race Results

These are recorded 1/8 mile times. Our closest drag strip is an 1/8 mile strip so all the times and speeds are in the 1/8th mile not the 1/4 mile.

Stock time-
7.892@90.23 MPH

OE tune and Heat Exchanger upgrade-
7.498@95.22 MPH

Heat Exchanger Upgrade, Off-Road Downpipes and OE re-tune for downpipes-
7.21@98.09 MPH

As you can see we had a very significant drop after we did the off-road downpipes and a new tune. We are still working on the tune with the off-road downpipes but Irwindale Speedway threw us out after we went faster than a 7.25 without a roll bar. Our 2WD E63 posted faster times than the 4WD but we have been improving the Race Start launch control and working on a lot of other aspects and would expect to see some quicker times in the very near future. Our goal is to post some 10 second 1/4 mile times with the stock turbos.

With the 2012-2013 E63 you can expect similar improvements with the off-road downpipes with the correct tuning.

Our downpipes are complete bolt-on units that have been designed and tested to maximize the performance with the stock AMG exhaust. We made and tested these pipes in 5 different diameters and also designed them to fit with all the factory components.

We tried 14 different sets of catalytic converters on our street legal downpipes to find the set that was still emissions compliant and provided the highest flow while utilizing enough precious metal content to last a long time.

The factory aluminum crossmember that is removed when installing downpipes can still be used with ours because there is enough clearance for them to correctly fit. We have also found that the PANO roof makes a lot more sounds when that crossmember is removed which translates to the chassis twisting more when that cross member is removed.

We spent many months testing these pipes and went well beyond just making a set of downpipes and deciding that we were satisfied for that.

If you have a 2012-2013 E63 and you are interested in a set of downpipes we do have the best fitting and performing pipes on the market. Let the fitment and the results speak for itself.

Give us a call for a set of downpipes for your car. As always, they are in stock and ready to ship immediately. If you are local in Los Angeles we can install them today. In Orange County you can give Benzworks a call for local installation.

Amazing improvement with the addition of the downpipes and re-tune!

So given my car went 103mph in the 1/8 tune only at Famoso, you think I may be 2-3mph faster next time now with the catless RADO pipes and matched Renntech re-tune? If so, 105-106 for such few mods would be ridiculous!!! That would also mean my old almost 131mph 1/4 trap would now be closer to 133-134. I sure hope you're right.

Would still be nice to know if all tunes are all created equal ? Coming from the Corevtte world there is about an average on what a tune would give. Does this hold true for the E63 as well when tuned? Or are some tuners advertising more HP?

I hate you rear wheel drive guys, haha. I'm excited to see what the retune does with your car. We have spent quite a bit of time with the tuning on ours and have been trying quite a lot of things. We did a lot of tweaking to get ours better but I know we still have a lot left on the table.

Are all tunes created equally? I would not say all tunes are created equally but most tunes that are sold by mail are general tunes that don't change much from car to car. Each car is pretty different and their is more to flashing one of these ECU's than most other ECU's so it is tougher to just try something new.

We have our computer out of the car pretty often because we are measuring data and constantly trying to improve upon it. The tunes that Jeremy at OE has been doing for our car have been for the parts that we are testing on our car. We make small changes and try and improve the overall drivability along with the horsepower and effectiveness of the car on the racetrack.

All of our testing has been done on 91 Octane fuel so far because that is what our customers have available to them from the pump. Once we are done with the 91 Octane tuning we will build the tunes for the 93 Octane states and we will come up with some final numbers with more exotic fuels when we are all done.

I wonder what their conditions were vs. yours and other items like gas....

and they had an S which you don't have so Im sure the AWD slowly kills the trap. (I said slowly)

I'm blown away how fast some of these tune only cars are going. I know what I have done to mine and some of these times are very impressive. Unfortunately their are not too many 2014 cars posting times yet. It will be nice to start seeing some of the 4WD owners posting times.

We are working on it every week to try and get every ounce of power out of it with its current combination before we decide to rip the car apart. I think after a couple of more trips to the drag strap we will start to look at the next round of modifications that we are going to do.

All of our runs are made with 91 Octane fuel.

I've run at both Irwindale and Famoso with previous cars, and I always seem to do a bit better at Famoso. So I think some of it is just the track difference. Famoso is generally known as being a very average track, so Irwindale must be on the slower side.

What did it do at Famoso Raceway?

Get your car out to the upcoming NFZ Airstrip Attack in Bakersfield on 3/29!!! Then we can line up our beasts and demonstrate any real top-end difference between similarly modded RWD and AWD models.

Nice, slower track and 91 octane on a AWD car is strong..

Eric your car is stupid strong--- the APR RS7 did 6.8 at 103 in their 10.69 at 129 run (93 octane) and you trap much better.

You already demonstrated your differences with your trap speed. I'm still trying to get to the trap speeds that your posting now.

Don't worry, we're gonna catch up to you

The 7.498 was at Famosa and that was on a great day with the density altitude right around 1000'.

The runs with the off road downpipe were done at Irwindale.

Very interesting results.

I ran 7.331 @ 99.03MPH in the 1/8 with just a tune and stock tires in my 14'CLS63. What tires were you guys running?

I think you ran at PBIR, which I've heard is a slightly faster than average track. You'd probably be a couple mph's down running at a slower track like Irwindale where they ran. Of course not trying to take anything away from your very impressive results.

Xtyper - you run mixed octane all the time, right? Would be nice if you had some results on 91/93 octane only as most of us run these octanes only.

To OP great runs...keep up the good work.

Most track events I run a pump/race mix of about 95 octane. Since I'm running a pump shelf tune, I don't think it makes much difference in terms of power, just ensures that I get everything possible out of it (optimized timing, etc).
