Torque

I see the upcoming 2015 S63 will have the same 5.5 motor the new E63S has and will share the same 577 HP but where as the E63 has 590 lbs. of torque the S63 will have 664lbs. People on this forum have complained about a torque limiting ecu on the transmission and are hoping the after market tuners can find a work around. Does anyone know why the work around can't be had from Mercedes if they allow the 664 lbs. in the S63? They evidently share the same transmission as well. Just wondering.

I've asked AMS/alpha performance this same question and they don't know what this "torque limiting ecu" term refers to. Torque limiting is a pretty generic waste basket term, my car is tuned and they didn't have any issue with torque limitation from what it heard .

They trap a bit slower and make a bit less power because they are awd and a bit heavier

The answer is simple. It's natural that MB wants people paying the price for a S63 to have higher motor specs compared to people buying an E63.

Also why is the ML63 with the same engine only rated at 518 hp/ 516 TQ or with the Perf pack 550 HP/ 560 TQ ?

The non p30 2012 e63 came with 518hp if I am not mistaken.

The SL63 has the same crazy torque figure as the S63 coupe and sedan.

The S63 coupe will be crazy fast. Same weight as the E63 sedan with more advertised torque. Should be a 3.1 second or less car as the E63 was hitting 3.2 in the latest magazine comparison.

If we believe motor trend, all these 5.5 TT are underrated and could very well have the same tune and power and are just advertised as being different.

Yes but what I dont understand is even on Renntech's site they advertise a tuned ML at 635hp/ 620tq while the E, CLS, S and SL all get 669hp/ 734tq. Aren't all those with the same motor ?

The SL has the same 664 tq figure. Personally I think it's only a paper difference. Like the old E55 only had 460 HP when in reality it was identical to the 500 of the S, SL, CL, etc

This might be true. I personally didn't find a difference when I drove a non S and S. Unless it's all in my head?!?!

It's 5% more power. Can you tell if you are driving a 100hp car or a 105hp car?

The thread is about torque…531 (non S) vs 590 (S). 11% more!
