2014 E63S
These updates were inevitable. Thank goodness they are finally on the horizon. Vastly improved cabin ergonomics, DCT, SAT/NAV split screen display, current technology and the addition of a HUD will raise the E63 to the undisputed leader of the high performance midsized sedan class.

Yup. Pure speculation based on recent releases from MB.
The W213 will be a 2017 model, released in 2016.
I can't see why they wouldn't want to make the car lighter. Cost is just passed onto the buyers. C moved upmarket to make room for the CLA. The E will have to move up market as well to make room that the C has taken over.
I love my 2014 and will likely wait for the 2020-2021 refresh of the W213. haha

Great, right about the time the lease expires on my '13 E63 Wagon.
Granted, it's really early for anyone to have such solid details about what's coming so I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. I'd also like to see them bring a proper double clutch transmission mated to the 4-matic, which is the only feature that sets the RS6 ahead of the E.
As far as a 4.0L V8, Audi is doing incredible things with theirs; I'm eager to see what MB can come up with.

It's for sure the much lowered displacement is needed in time for the 36.6 mpg mandate in the US by 2017. Coinciding with most car model's life cycle of 7-8 years, the following mandate is 54.5 mpg by 2025. Not expecting the E63 to come close to the 133 hp/L output from the 4.6L naturally aspirated V8 in 918 Spyder, but AMG should be able go up on the hp/L while maintaining the torque with FI. The technology of hybridization with battery as found on the 918 will eventually trickle down to all cars and I'm sure AMG will come out with their version soon if they were to maintain the performance level and meet the mpg mandate at the same time.
With the 918's 4.6L + battery capable of achieving 71mpg at this time, I certainly hope AMG wouldn't go too low on the displacement as long as the setup is capable of reaching 54.5mpg. I really don't like the thought of having the displacement dropping below 5.0L.

that article said the torque is going to drop with the 4litre engine compared to current E63 engines. I guess its all speculation at this stage.

With the MLE holding on to the 5.5tt, I believe the W213 will do the same.
I don't see the 4.0 being able to push out more than 577hp and carry a warranty from Mercedes. And if it could, I cant imagine why they wouldn't give the AMG GT more than 510hp.
I strongly believe that the only way we will see the 4.0tt in the E/CLS/S/GL 63's is if they are assisted with electric motors.

2019 E63S wagon; 2016 Landrover Landmark
When I got this car I assumed I'd never part with my '14 AMG wagon, but if the HUD and elec asst come in the W213, I might look to swap. Elec only mode means I might be tempted to drive my car to the train station... 3 min away, rather than the Dutch bike I use now. Tough on cold days, but no way I'm gonna waste a petrol-AMG engine on that commute.

Wild *** guess:
Hasn't the E63/E55 *always* used an engine from the S-class AMG car (S63) a couple years after the S-class starts using them?
The S-class hasn't started using the 4-liter. Its still using the M157, I *believe*.
Would there be any precedent for the S63 to have less torque than the E63? I dont think so.
Feels like we'll have the M157 5.5 in the E63 for a few years to come. The quantities of cars shipped make, I believe, the emissions requirements moot.
Thats my wild-*** guess.

If they change engines in all the models it will likely be with the release of a new chassis or facelift.
The W213, new CLS, or Facelift W222 will introduce the engine that will replace the 5.5bt.

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
They need to re release the 5.5tt with full tune from renntech 730hp/830lb and slap a Benz warranty on it
And be done.
And be done.
