Navigation System

I have the latest navigation disk from Mercedes, but the system is very lacking. It doesn't show local streets. Does anyone have a better solution?

What do you mean by: It doesn't show local streets?

They were newly construction post-disc release?
You cannot zoom down to the street level?

I don't understand your question.

Want something better? Just dust off your old Garmin or TomTom from nearly a decade ago.

For what we pay for these cars the command and navigation systems should be the best in the industry. I would be willing to pay for an upgrade to a system that really works. They pay speaker manufactures for speakers that really work, why do the same for top notch navigations systems.

The nav unit in my 07 Lexus LS460 was better than what I have in my new wagon including a larger screen. Very disappointing. I may be better off with a new Rand McNally.

My Motorola Startach flip phone from 1989(I think) had better graphics than our nav screen/system. The exhaust tone makes up for it though.

i gotta laugh at threads like this one...

The OP asks an INCREDIBLY vague question. One which is quite literally impossible to answer. But doesn't bother to provide further information in order to perhaps receive a useful response.

Then.

All the complainers jump on to whine about something in the car that they don't like.

Rinse and Repeat.

LOL

The infotainment nav system in my 2014 mdx is amazing but I didn't buy it for the performance, I bought it for the tech and three rows. I bought the e for the 200k car performance in a 100k beautifully wrapped Benz package ...

Well, hyperbole much when you claim a 128X160 LCD offers a "superior" display to the one in the '14 E63?

The maps render quickly and accurately. What more could you possibly want?

Eesh

I think the send2car or whatever feature from mbrace2 is pretty sweet... Nice to not have to mess with the command and just have the car ready to route to the destination

I don't really have any complaints about the nav. Maybe zoom in a little to find the actual streets if that's your complaint. I live this nav a lot better than the one I had in a 2013 CTS V that I traded in for this car. That system drove me nuts, there was a delay with everything you pressed and I found it very frusterating. Think it had a old 386 processor or something it seemed.

The OP post had 3 parts 1. A general statement that he feels the Nav system is lacking. Thus the complainers posts that they felt a top of the line car should have a better system than the one they got and that he is not the only one that feels the system could be better.

2. The question about not naming local streets was vague.

3. He asked what other people have come up with to combat the problem with the Nav sys.

Didn't see anything funny in the thread except for your post.

I prefer the Mercedes method to entering in address information over my Lexus LS460L but the rear camera on the Lexus is phenomenal... I wonder what it's like in the S-Class...

Didn't see anything funny in the thread except for your post.

So, from the following question (singular, as in one single, incredibly vague question) you are able parse it out to that extent? Great. Nobody else can, nor does the OP even care to clarify.

Let's read it again:

The system is very lacking. Okay. Why? Well, it's quite logical to surmise that it's because it doesn't "show" local streets.

Nothing about "naming" as you have for some reason chosen to assume.

Show = display

Local streets aren't being displayed.

Two causes: New construction or failure to zoom in sufficiently.

I attempted to actually help the OP by dragging out additional information about the problem. It's quite literally impossible to answer the question without knowing what is being actually asked.

Then, we got the usual whining and moaning from others (which offered nothing to the content or purpose of the thread).

But thanks. Your post helped the OP a ton.

Do the S class use the same system as the E class? Maybe that's why the E class system is not as detailed as the S class, Benz is trying to get people to buy the S class? I was not about to drop an extra 30 grand or so just to get that scent system the S class sprays with the push of the button although I suppose it would be nice if someone farted in the car.

I think it's really funny how vague people can be, such as the op's post, and expect some type of answer that's actually useful

Chances are the op hasn't posted back because he figured out how to zoom in, oh well

Yes, the OP must have gotten a chance to slide the knob up and push down to select full screen, then turn the knob to zoom in and out. Oh well, the major thing going for this car is the performance. Other things like this are just bonuses. The routing is fine most of the time, and at least it's built in so I don't have to worry about the GPS unit falling off the mount whenever I hit a bump.

I really have no complaints about this car, best car I've owned by far. Anything below a zoom in of a 1/4 mile on my car does show the street names listed on the map, not all streets mind you but most of them. Even if I'm zoomed out all the way it will occasionally show the highway number I'm on. If I get into a more tight area I simply twist the jog know and can see everything more detailed including street names. I don't really mind the way of entering things in with the jog knob, you get use to it. Or, at least with my car you can speak in the address by pressing the little voice button on the middle of the steering wheel. What's not to like. I tried the Cadillac Cue system out too in a XTS and really did not like that either, plus you get all the finger prints all over the touch screen so I don't think those are such a good thing.

You guys in the US have it great.
The Nav here in NZ does not even name some of the cities correctly and is about 5 years or more behind on new roads/motorways.
MBNZ claim that its the latest version....???Not that they give a s..t about NZ....!

That's too bad, sounds like NZ Benz needs to be more on top of things.

Anybody know how much Benz charges at the dealer to do the latest update? My car is a 2012 with the original maps, I'd like to update it with the 2014 or even 2015 US if it's out yet and maybe get a oil change at the same time.
