Will the car indicate when LSD oil change is due?

Not for specific individual things but just things like service A, Service AB, etc. You can look up in the manual what these specific services entail. Go to your menu screen with your left steering wheel button and scroll until you get to service assist and it will tell you how many miles to go until the next service and the letter designation of that service. At least on my car Tire pressure is on the same screen and you can click on that to see your tire pressure readings.

I don't think the car even knows if it has an LSD, or not.

But that's just a semi-educated guess.

There was definitely NOT a light on the dash for the LSD fluid change. I don't recall getting any sort of notification at all once we hit that mileage. Nor is there any indication in the service menus -- I looked but saw no indication of a service due, even though I had just hit the LSD service mileage. Very poorly done, Mercedes.

I think service on these cars is very well laid out, like I said there are letter designations for different service intervals, makes sense to me. LSD service is pretty simple. Just do it after the first 2000 miles, there is a sticker attached to windshield when new so not too hard to remember, this is very important as are the regular brake flushes, Benz is real picky about that and I can imagine if you didn't do the brake flushes as per schedule they could deny warrantee service if say something expensive were to go like a master cylinder or abs unit which I believe is now part of the master cylinder unit. Then do your rear end gear oil change again at 40000 miles. It's not rocket science. The warning on the screen will come up within 30 days saying something like "30 days until service B" So just take it to the dealer and get it done within that 30 days. If it's up for a LSD oil change the dealer will recommend it. Here is a copy of manual if you have any other questions. This is for a 2010 MY though, I think the intervals are not too much different. http://www.mercedesbenzraleigh.com/a...ce-Booklet.pdf I did mine around 15K miles as I bought the car used at 11K miles and was not completely sure if it had ever been done, pretty sure it was though as the car was flawlessly maintained. Go to your Service assist screen and it will tell you how long until your next service is due and mileage.

?? There's certainly no such service sticker in the U.S. that I've ever seen.

Your dealer may have removed it. My 2014 E63S wagon had a sticker that was about 6 inches long and 3 inches wide - you couldn't miss it.

Yeah, mine had a sticker also. I have about 1800 miles and my car goes in next week for the lsd fluid change and I'm also doing an engine oil change while its there.

What's the rationale for the engine oil change early?

I just like having my engine oil changed after break-in, its not needed, just something I do with all my vehicles(cars, trucks, bikes, heavy equipment).

Wagon
Just did my 1900 diff change. Boy that fluid came out with a bunch of metal in it. I guess the Germans had a reason for wanting this change. We flushed it with an extra quart to get all the metal out. What a beast.

When those gears wear in they produce a lot of shavings, especially with the kind of torque the 5.5 puts out.
