Just got this message while on Highway about adding oil. Normal or should I be concerned!
Sys to check out level and add a litre.

 

It is normal if your engine is low on oil. Might want to check it.

 

I got this twice before my first scheduled oil service.

I did what it said and put a bottle in. No problems or additional messages after each occurance.

Stopped at a local MB dealer and they came out and put a bottle of oil in.
Did not seem to think there was anything to it other than that.

 

It's a german engine. It consumes some oil.

Off topic here: Does anyone know the purpose of that round opening with metal mesh on the wood trim next to the steering column at the right lower hand side of the photo?

 

I guess I've been lucky, my car seems to use no oil, been 7000 miles since last oil change and is still right on the full mark. Going to get it changed next week for sure. I think 10k miles a bit too much.

Does oil consumption have anything to do with how hard u push the engine?

AMG cars burn oil, its normal.

 

There has been some debate on this site as to whether or not to follow the break-in instructions. I wonder if it makes any difference in future oil consumption. I know we followed the break-in procedure faithfully and have not used one drop of oil in the car's first 5K miles.

 

You must not drive hard! lol I speak to the techs all the time when i bring it in for oil and they have always said its normal on AMG cars.

 

Regarding the oil burning, it's probably because the car has not been driven hard enough like the previous person had mentioned.

Okay, I guess no one knows for sure what that round metal mesh thing is. I'm starting a thread on that.
