Off topic here: Does anyone know the purpose of that round opening with metal mesh on the wood trim next to the steering column at the right lower hand side of the photo?

I guess I've been lucky, my car seems to use no oil, been 7000 miles since last oil change and is still right on the full mark. Going to get it changed next week for sure. I think 10k miles a bit too much.

There has been some debate on this site as to whether or not to follow the break-in instructions. I wonder if it makes any difference in future oil consumption. I know we followed the break-in procedure faithfully and have not used one drop of oil in the car's first 5K miles.

Regarding the oil burning, it's probably because the car has not been driven hard enough like the previous person had mentioned.
Okay, I guess no one knows for sure what that round metal mesh thing is. I'm starting a thread on that.
