Michelin pilot sport AS3 vs Pirelli summer stock tires
Sorry for a new thread I just wanted to get some fast responses before I pull the trigger.
I have a 2014 E63s with stock Pirelli tires and outside the track, I hate the pirellis. They are noisy and extremely rough on NYC roads.
I am debating on getting a set of winter snow wheel and tires but in NYC the snow is never that bad so I am just thinking of getting a set of everyday all seasons and then maybe keep my old pirellis just for the track.
I heard the Michelin pilot sport AS3 are amazing in the winter and perform incredible in the summer, outside the track supposedly they Grip like any other summer tire.
My main concern is ride comfort, I read on tire rack reviews that these Michelin pilot sport AS3 ride very harsh but i cant imagine them being stiffer then the stock pirellis.
Can anyone chime in some thoughts?
You will get the best performance in both summer and winter by running dedicated summer/winter setups.
Alternatives to the Pirelli tires for summer: Continental ExtremeContact DW, Michelin Pilot Super Sport.
Great winter tires: Bridgestone Blizzak LM-32, Bridgestone Blizzak WS70.
That being said I am moving to a summer/winter tires set up on my incoming E63 S sedan. Think I need the extra grip given the Renntech tune and Renntech sport mufflers.
Based on feedback, I'm pretty certain that the AS3's are excellent tires for cold and rain. Ultra-performance tires like the Pirellis (I have a set on now) dont warm up in the rain and end up offering what feels like sub-par performance compared with a high-performance all season. I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but it has been my experience.
Im tempted to try and get the America's Tire folks here in town to order a set of 40front/35 back series as long as they agree to swap them out for 35/30 if they dont fit. I know conventional wisdom is that they don't... but I think they will based on measurements I've made (again, Im driving a 2012, but I dont think that matters).
I think a set of 40/35 AS-3's would be a very good tire for our cars when the weather isnt 70+ degrees Fahrenheit and sunny.
I get that a winter tire would be better in the snow, but I have a fancy truck for that instead.
