Sun Visor Mirror Cracked MY12 E63
Went to MB dealer who quoted A$2.2k (US$1.87k) saying (a) not covered by warranty and (b) the whole sun visor is the part and the mirror is not sold separately. So, removed mirror case (gently with a couple of small flat blade screwdrivers pushing upwards where lower lands are - c25% in from each side). Gently removed the cracked mirror with a craft knife and replaced the mirror for A$10 (US$8.50) at a local glazier. Victory!

My wife broke both vanity mirrors on our G wagen within the first month of ownership. I was fortunate to receive a one-time courtesy replacement of both from the dealer. They are definitely not covered by US new car warranty. I was told the cost of the part was $410 per side. Different vehicle, but still a costly and fragile part. I don't know what the labor charge was for the replacement.

I'm no scientist, but I know $10 is a better deal than $2500

It's ridiculous having to replace the entire visor assemby just because the mirror is cracked. Great job there with the $8.50 mirror from the local glass/mirror shop. That's good info to know.
