2014 E63 Wagon
Peter - I saw your previous posts and, yes, I also had issues with bogging down in stop and go. No lurching after a stop but in S+, which is what I use mostly, it seemed not to want to drop down and give me first gear. If it did give me first gear, the clutch uptake was hesitant. There would be maybe a third of a second where nothing was happening.

With the update, it is still there but to a lesser degree. To me it feels like in S+ it drops to first the moment the speed goes below 20 kmh. Then the clutch uptake thereafter also seems faster.

The one thing I would really like to see though is for the tranny not to auto-upshift in S+ to such tall gears. There is no way in S+ that it should be in 4th gear at 50 kmh or 5th gear at 60 kmh. Should hold it at a lower gear. If not that, then in M allow an upshift at redline instead of banging into the limiter.

I took my car in for the rear diff service in September (the shop did the front diff at the same time for no charge). They also did a transmission software upgrade but no one at the dealership could tell me why. The info on the invoice merely says Factory Campaign and 2014050002 Trans Sftwr Update. The service description is similar to diyk987's. It says "connect/disconnect battery charger, perform software update for ETC control unit". Work was done at no charge under warranty. I drive a lot in C mode around town and didn't notice any big differences, although I did have one scary incident not long after the upgrade when creeping in downtown traffic where the tranny seemed to get stuck between gears and it was slipping badly, so regardless of throttle position, the car was barely moving. I had to go into neutral and cycle the ignition to get going again. Fortunately, traffic wasn't going anywhere, so I didn't generate too many horns or angry stares from other drivers.

I like my transmission where it is and I kind of want to leave well enough alone.... Debating on doing this update

There have been a few members that have had the tranny upgrade. Has anyone noticed more responsive shifts in M mode?

I'm bringing my car in for service A on Friday. Going to ask about software updates as I have an earlier 2014 (Oct 2013 build).

I noticed this in the bulletins thread:

LI25.00-P-059830 SEPT14 – Wet Clutch AMG vehicles with Eco Start/Stop & VGS4 jolting on start off after engine Eco restart, update engine control unit (ECU) & transmission control unit (TCU) software + perform wet clutch adaption.

Its still not immediate. But maybe a bit faster dropping down a gear or dropping down a couple of gears in a row. On the upshift, say from 1st to 2nd, at WOT I find I still have to pull the paddle at about 5700rpm to not bang into the rev limiter.

Its a bit better but still lots of room for improvement. I'm not sure whether the limiting factor is the software programming or the MCT hardware itself.

Mercedes will never push the transmissions to their limits, they will and have always went the reliability route vs numbers.

they will creep it a bit faster as a model wines down before it gets a refresh and after they found ways to make the MCT more reliable. Personally i don't like the PDK as i commute allot and hated it in stop and go. So far the MCT in my 2015 is much smoother for that. Now when you mash the throttle the the PDK it noticeably faster but overall I am happier with the MCT as my daily driver. Though I agree there is room for improvement. 2 cents..

ps happy new years to everyone

So Canada does not have a TSB for the transmission yet. At least not for my car.

Thanks.

Benyl - I live in Toronto and was the one that posted the invoice earlier in the thread. Also have an E63 wagon. My build (November 2013) and delivery (January 2014) timing are similar to yours, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't have the same update in Cowtown.

CL63 AMG
Upgraded valve body and upgraded software. I think Benz has already secretly replaced the old valve body with the new one (not sure if part number has changed though.). A friend has his just replaced and software updated on his older one (under warranty bc stock unit went bad).

The results were staggering to says he least. It's literally DCT fast now. I am shocked they have been able to push their transmission design so far. Better & quicker downshifts and better response on blips. Biggest difference is up shifts at WOT, almost instantaneous

It made a very large difference in my 2012 wagon, but I don't know what part of it is from the total reset and relearn and which is from the updated software.

The car is much more responsive from a start in "C", but seems to shift similarly quickly in S under full throttle.

How's the bogging down in stop and go while in s or s+ ?

I confess I'm not much of a S or S+ user unless I'm really playing around. So far, that seems pretty similar and appropriately responsive.

I think the danger of bogging down in S or S+ is when you spend awhile cruising in that mode and then floor it? I guess while I haven't tried that, I did notice that after a little bit of fun on a twisty back road a couple days ago I got on a highway slowly and noted that the engine was turning 1500 rpm before I had put it back into "C". Not a problem, just a "huh". I've never had the car shift into 7th in S or S+, and I dont think it had... I was just cruising along at 50 or 60 in 6th.

So, do we know yet after all these posts if the 2015 E63 has the HARDWARE update as well as the software that the 2015 CLS has.... SDG .. you'll have to chime in and let us know too how your 2015 tranny performs

As I read this thread, I was wondering the same thing. Adaptive transmissions tend to get lazy if you spend alot of time tooling around. Resetting the controllers/computers back to square 1 tends to eliminate that slow responsiveness.

AMG PL just confirmed that the 2015 CLS 63 S does have a new improved (hardware and software changes) MCT transmission. No word on the E63 yet.

I can't imagine that the 15 e63 would NOT have the change... It would make no sense to me

Where are you located? It's too bad that RWD version of the E63S is not offered in the States.
