2010 E63 vs. 2011 is there a difference?

I'm getting ready to start looking for either a 2011 or 2010 E63. Is there any difference between the 2 model years? Any known problems with them?

I definitely want one with the premium package 2, but what other packages did the AMG offer in those years. This would be my first benz and just want to make an informed purchase.

Thanks for your help

2010 is more likely to have head bolt problem. 2011 had A little upgrade on the nav system and the HP was raised a little. So I purchased a 2011 with distronic plus, pkg 2, night vision, park sensors, pan roof, power trunk, heated/cooled seats

How often do you use the night vision? So are there any packages people are glad they got or wish they had gotten?

I use the night vision to entertain the grandchildren. It is useful away from city lights in lite fog. Blind spot system and backup camera along with distronic plus are all great options to have.

Alcantra headliner in 2011 and leather dash, in my mind are much improved...also as said the headbolt issue is a biggie. I would buy a late 2011 Feb-June 2011 built to sleep easy....

Honestly i always thought distronic and blind spot assist were gimmicks...but now that I have them and use them, they are absolutely awesome. Night vision, for me is more of a cool feature. Id choose distronic over night vision any day...

If you live where there are a lot of deer the night vision would be a good option, saved my *** more than a few times. The head bolt issue isn't a big issue as long as you weren't entertaining the thought of owning it without an extended warranty, then the whole car becomes an issue. For all the people that think most the features are gimmicks, go rent a compact car and drive it around for 3 weeks. You can't imagine how annoying digging the key out of your pocket can become.

2010 & 2011 E63 Factory Options & Upgrades

Here are the best links to compare all options available on the 10/11 E63 AMG. I used this Motor Trend intel when I was comparing these same 2 cars. And like the other guy said in a different manner, as long as you have one with a warranty then the known Head Bolt issue shouldn't be a problem. What I feel will certainly be a problem is having a vehicle of this caliber without a warranty. PERIOD. I will never purchase a pre-owned AMG that is outside of the factory B2B window. Even if it's only a few months left and at least under 45K miles. My rational behind that is even issues such as cabin noise (rattles & creaks, etc), will be addressed as well as burnt out HID bulbs or interior trim defects. These sorts of things are ONLY covered under the original B2B warranty. Those sorts of things are not covered neither under the CPO or an MB Extended Warranty.
After some intense research, I found a 2010 E63 very well loaded with features I would actually use and I'm, for the most part, happy with this decision. If you haven't found one by now the best advice I can give you is to make sure it is still under the 4yr/50K B2B warranty. Finding a 2010 still covered under the B2B may be a challenge more so because of the year than the miles. But you may find some stragglers that didn't purchase and officially put "In Service" until mid 2011. Under 50K miles shouldn't be that difficult. Finding one still under the 4 years may prove time consuming. I hope these links were helpful. And good luck...

Ronin
