New Steel Gray E63S AMG
Have been lurking around this forum and just wanted to say hello. I bought a 2015 E63S from a local dealer today and I look forward to many meaningful discussion on this forum.
It all started on Monday when I found out that my 2012 BMW 550i xDrive with Dinan stage 5 mods has a major engine campaign with multiple components that needed replacement, and this led me to start looking for another car. This BMW has spent multiple days at the shop getting fuel injectors and fuel pump replaced, plus additional unexplained CEL, so it was probably time to sell it before the value dropped because of this campaign.
I started out looking for a dark exterior (but not black), with black interior and open-pore brown ash trim. Got really lucky here because the local dealer by my house had pretty much the car I was looking for. Here are the specs:
- Steel Grey
- Black Nappa w/ contrast stitching
- Open-pore brown ash wood trim
- Panorama sunroof
- Night Styling
- Black wheels
- Driver assistance package
- Surround View
- Wheel locking bolts
- Comfort box
- Chrome door handles
MSRP was $107985 and it believe I got a very reasonable deal that was under invoice with almost no negotiation. This is the first luxury car I have purchased from the dealer lot and it is 95% of what I wanted and only 11 miles away from my house. Had I ordered the car, the only 2 options I would add are the laminated glass and rear seat heaters. I think waiting 6 months for these 2 options would be silly.
Since i live in Chicago, the summer tires are quite treacherous. I have call Tire Rack and they are all sold out of the Pirelli winter tires in the E63 size. A call to Costo for the Michelin PA4 yielded nothing either as they are all sold out as well. I got lucky once again as the Discount tire by my house had a set of Blizzak LM-32 in stock. I picked them up this afternoon and my tune shop will swap them out on Monday. I am thinking of ordering a set of HRE FF15 in black for my summer tires in Spring.
I am planning to follow the break in schedule and will not tune the car until spring. One dilemma I have is whether I should go with Renntech or AMS. The Dinan tune shop that took care of my BMW is also a Renntech dealer and they are 2 miles from my house. However, AMS is not too far away either. What do you guys think? Since I already have a Porsche with the sports exhaust, which is quite loud, I don't think I will get an exhaust for this E63, which will be my daily driver.
Here is a picture of the car. Quality is not very good because it's from my cellphone and we don't get much sunlight in Chicago these days. Happy driving!

Thank you. I still can't believe that the car I was looking for was just 11 miles away. I have custom ordered BMW's, MB's and Porsches and the wait is excruciating. This is especially true for Porsche, where the normal wait is at least 6 months. I am still pinching myself to see if this new E63 in the garage is real.

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately, I have not been able to drive it today because of snow in the Chicago area. The set of Blizzak LM-32s go on tomorrow morning. In the meantime, I am extremely torn between Renntech and AMS. The shop who did all the Dinan work on my 550i is 2 miles from my house and they also do Renntech. On the other hand, AMS is not too far either. What do you guys think? If I go the Renntech route, should I take it easy anf just do the intermediate tune for now, or go with the regular tune? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

You have a great looking car! In the beginning, I almost wanted to order the Cardinal Red after seeing pictures of your car. She is stunning! In the end, my wife talked me out of it by saying that my first red car should be a Ferrari. However, I couldn't talk her into letting me buy a used 458 Italia this time around, but I will keep trying for sure.

Congrats. I had the same horrendous experience with my 2012 BMW 550so with Dinan mods (two complete fuel injector replacements, turbo cooling line replacement, water pump and coolant pump replacement) which I gleefully turned in from its lease this week. As far as tunes go you can't go wrong with either AMS or Renntech. If I was that close to AMS I probably would just drive it there.

AMS has a rep for quality ECU tuning on our cars. I would go local if Iived near them. My ECU is NEVER leaving my car again.

Thanks everyone. I am planning to get 3M crystalline 40 on 3 sides and still trying to decide if I want CR90 or CR70 on the windshield. Has any here gone with the CR70 on their windshield? Does it decrease night visibility?
Also, what are the spring choices to lower this car? What websites do AMG people go to for parts besides Renntech and AMS? Thanks!

Tell me about it. I brought my brand new 2015 E63 S in to the dealer at 7 am Wednesday morning for them to remove the ECU and Fed Ex it to Renntech and I still don't have my car back. They promised me Thursday or Friday but somehow Fed Ex did not put my ECU on the plane on Wednesday (or perhaps the dealer never gave it to them on Wednesday) so it did not get to Renntech until Friday morning. Dealer said that even if it came back to them on Saturday the car would not be ready for me until Monday as they want to test it out and make sure there are no issues. And I have no idea if my ECU ever made it back to the dealer on Satursday because the servide advisor (the same one who falsely told me the ECU was at Renntech on Thursday when it wasn't) did not return any of my calls on Saturday inquiring as to status. Very frustrating.

Tints are done. CR40 on all 3 sides and the 2 sunroofs. CR70 on the windshield. Those ugly chrome door inserts come off tomorrow. I wonder what the dealer was thinking when they ordered the car. $90 wasted.
