So a few months ago I started my search for an new AMG. I had a 2006 C55 AMG that was my favorite car of all time but after 122,000 miles, I needed a new one. A good friend who would "baby sit" my car during my extensive travels, ended up buying it for a fair price to both of us. It was well cared for and despite the mileage, was as close to immaculate as a car of that age and use could be.

I decided on an E63 AMG S model and wanted to go used to take advantage of the first year depreciation. I looked at several around the U.S. but could not find anything that really spoke to me. I decided to bite the bullet and just get a new one. My local dealership here in Reno had a demo with 1500 miles on it and literally sold it the day before I decided to spend more money so I missed out on that one. After a nationwide search came up empty, we set about ordering one only to find out that all 2015 allocations nationwide were used up and no dealership was willing to give us their allocation. Good news was that I ordered a 2016 model that was slated for delivery in late May. I placed the order in late February and am now waiting.

Cut to this week when I noticed that MB has broken a few items out of packages and allowed them to be ordered separately, namely the surround view system. I went back to the dealership today to revise the order but it is now "locked" in so no changes may be made. However, production has been moved to early June with a July delivery expected. While I know this is a first world problem but moving the delivery back almost two most is driving me crazy! I want my car! Living without AMG is more difficult than I thought.

Well- I , at least, can feel your pain. I ordered about 2 1/2 weeks ago and have no production date or info.

As of two weeks ago, the 501 Surround View Camera was only available as part of the 995 AMG Surround View Camera Package which also included P44 Parling Package (RVC & Parktronic). It was not listed in the indiviual options in DOG V 1.1.

 

The mbusa.com website shows it as a standalone option--currently. However, as my dealer pointed out, sometimes the website is incorrect. Hang in there.

 

Production delays in this car are common especially if you ordered designo interior options or forged wheels

 

since you seem to have right experience w the matter, any idea what typical lead time is for a wagon with designo exterior/interor?

 

Not sure about a wagon. The designo interior caused about a 6 week delay to my build for my E63 S sedan. Another member here had designo interior and forged wheels ordered for his sedan and that seemed to cause about a 3 month delay to his build.

Member Lenin ordered a wagon in September and got his I believe last month.

 

Sure you don't want to reconsider a 2014 with low miles... Autotrader has quite a few out there ... Many optioned up....

I forgot about Autotrader and had only been searching cars.com. I looked at Autotrader just now, and you are correct, there are quite a few for sale there. Ultimately, I don't want an off the shelf one so the personalization will make it worth the wait....I hope!

Good thought though.

 

Waited a total of 18 months between the time I placed order with dealer and delivery... With one car wrecked on the boat in between! I feel your pain but on a 1 to 10 scale i feel it to about 2... Lol.

True designo adds about 6 weeks but worth every minute of the extra wait.

 

Hopefully, my order will move along. It was a very boring build with Obsidian Bleck/Black/Black/Night and standard options and most of the packages except carbon. Fleet sites list 8-12 weeks for MB E class, on average.

I probabbly could have found something very close to ordered by looking nationwide but with limited looking I did not find one speced the same. Thanks to sdg1871, and a very good local dealer, the price was excellent on the ordered unit.

I was able to delay that convo with my dad for another year, might be needing a crash course on how to extract maximum discount in MSRP and $$$ in trunk money from you guys in about 10 months

 

Lol we are in the same boat!! He's driving a 99 e320 4m with 170k miles ... He bought it new in '98

It's a rust bucket now but zero major problems ... They don't build them like that anymore as they say

So I as you all know, I have been waiting and waiting for my E63 to come in. Well, my parents are visiting from Missouri so I decided to take them to the Mercedes store to see another E63 so they could get an idea of what I am getting. Well wouldn't you know it, they had just received an "Edition 1" C63 AMG S and I was smitten. I drove it back-to-back with the E63 and it was no contest, this C is so track focused as compared with the E that I had to have it.

I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of the murdered out look but this one feels right. I may change the wheels later but for now, it will stay stock with the exception of an extensive clear bra and tinted windows. So I guess you will now see me under the C63 section of this forum.

What do you all think?

The carbon fiber has a single red thread per strand that really makes it pop.

Those seats are wicked!! Enjoy! If you dont need 4matic for winter, I guess it's a better "sports car" than the E. I miss my 2011 C63 often, but enjoy my E all year long as opposed to the C!

 

It's not completely murdered out, you have enough accents in there for variety. I think the car looks great. And yes, good choice on picking the car that you enjoyed driving more

 

Mercedes is more sophisticated than a Subaru or a Mitsubishi, but the C 63 with red and black is a bit too boy racer for me but it is a very good looking car, congratulations!
