Help with purchase 2014 E63 4matic
Hello everyone, I don't post often on here, but I wanted to have some of your opinions on a particular vehicle I was looking to purchase. I found a 2014 E63 4matic (non S model) pretty much standard options, only added option is the parking assistance package or whatever they call it. Original sticker was 96k, selling price from a dealer for 70k with 8800 miles on it. Still has original warranty for another 40k miles or 3 years. Tires have 50% tread and brake pads have been changed. I wanted to ask you all if that is a fair price? Any room for me to haggle a bit more? What kind of troubling things should I ask them? Another thing of concern for me is that the carfax comes back clean however it is listed that it was used as a rental? How can such a car be used as a rental? Could it be that the dealer was using it? It shows that the dealership took back possession of the vehicle at around 8200 miles. One last note would be how is maintenance costs on these things? Thanks in advance!

It was probably maintained but I wouldn't touch it ... How do you think it was driven?
I would offer 65k and that would be a great price, start from there
Take the vin and run it by a Mercedes dealership to see if any work as been done to it
If you plan to keep beyond the bumper to bumper ... Consider an extended warranty

It sounded great till you mentioned the rental. For sure the proper break-in wasn't done and it was driven really hard, every mile. With patience you can probably find a similar deal from a non-rental. I'd pass.

Additionally, on the topic of purchasing a "rental" AMG -- a forum member made the comment -- "it's under warranty, who cares that it was a rental."
I thought about that and surmised -- if something fails in the engine or something catastrophic in the drivetrain -- Benz techs open it up and find "excessive wear and tear" on internal parts -- you may be in for a challenge to get them to cover that under warranty. Not saying that's right or wrong -- but I've read stories about guys here on this forum getting denied some warranty work WITHOUT tunes on their cars because of similar circumstances.
Plus -- even if it's covered -- it's a PIA to have to leave your car with the dealer for a month while they do major engine or trans work.
I also hear a lot on this forum -- "AMG's... they're built to be driven hard. Who cares if you drive it like you stole it?"
Well, I do know they are made of earthly materials that do have failure points and it's not exactly clear how an AMG is "meant" to be driven compared to a non-amg benz. In the manual it is very clear that the car should NOT be driven aggressively BEFORE the oil is up to temp --> this most likely was NEVER followed or even mentioned to clients at Hertz. They drove it like they stole it, and rented this car so they could "DRIVE IT LIKE AN AMG"
Hertz also rents exotics -- would you buy those used as well?

It's a rental, run don't walk away from the deal. I travel for work and although don't beat up on rentals, seeing my co-workers and the stories I've heard are more than enough to dissuade me
