AC Question

I noticed that my Wife's 2013 GLK's AC seems to be noticeably cooler than the AC in my 2011 E63.

Have any of you 2011ish owners had to recharge your AC systems yet? Seems a bit early to need this to me.

It does work and does get cool enough, but not very quickly and not as cold as the GLK that is 2 years newer.

Anyway, just curious.

Thanks in advance gentlemen.

AC in these cars is crap. Mine takes forever to get cold when it is hot and literally takes 15 minutes to cool down the cabin. However, once the cabin is cool, it will keep it there. I just had my car in for some other warranty work and I had them check the AC -- tech noted that it was in compliance with MB specs. My 8 year old Acura that cost 1/2 as much blows way colder almost immediately after starting the car.

Mine needs to be recharged...it takes around 30 seconds to deliver cool air. Cabin maintains coolness quite well once it gets going though. 73k, 2010 model.

My 2011 is currently in for Service B and I am having them look at the AC. When it is 100 degrees+ outside you can really tell the AC is poorly designed. Perhaps it may be low freon, they will figure it out and let me know.

I also noticed that when the AC is on face mode and feet mode along with the highest fan speed, there is a very minimal amount of air that comes out the two front center ducts by the navigation. It's almost like something is restricting it. Will keep everyone informed as soon as I get some insight.

Couldn't have said it any better, so I won't try beyond saying Merc's E-class AC is hopelessly outclassed.

Outclassed by my wife's half-the-cost GLK 350!!

Something very wrong here.

I may just buy a recharge can and see if I can improve it.

Thanks to all.

V. I remember when you first bought your E63, you still had 2 months left on the factory warranty? Do you still have anytime left? Even if your just out, take it to the dealer, if one done work, go to another. Someone is gonna fix it man. Good luck.

Not really broken. Just not as cold as the wife's 2013 GLK.

Pretty sure it just needs a minor recharge.

Thanks

Received a call from the dealer. He said having a collapsed line for the AC freon is quite common on our cars so they ordered a new AC line. Will see if that makes any difference.

As far as the low fan speed coming from the middle vents on max fan speed on face and feet. He said the middle vents have a diverter which air goes to the feet where the side vents don't. Therefore, the side vents blow harder than middle vents on max fan.

As I wrote earlier, HPMan is right on the money. I got another reminder from my stealer today.

No surprise, my A/C is operating as designed with a temp of ~40C at the center vent. No smushed line. Not low on gas. Too bad.

[Rant on] I'm not surprised that my A/C behaved itself sitting inside the nice, climate-controlled mech shop. My beef is when the car sits out in the hot sun for awhile. As many of us have experienced, it takes comparatively longer for the A/C to get its act together. It takes too long to get cold and too long to cool off the interior. [/Rant off]

Agree with everything you said. Its not right.

With that said, as I reported in a different thread, I just had top of the line ceramic film tinting done. AND WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE! after sitting in parking lot summer 100deg I can get in and its only fairly warm. Not scalding hot. This allows the inadequate AC to become fully effective MUCH faster! It gets perfectly comfortable after only about 2 minutes max now.

So this is an alternative solution to correct the inadequacy of the AC. Still doesnt excuse it. But it is a solution.

Just an FYI for whatever its worth.
