Silvers2k mini build thread and intro '12 E63
Hi fellas, I decided to post a mini build thread.
I've searched through the forums for countless hours to say the least for information on the mods/pictures. I'd like to return the favor by posting my mods/pictures for those who are interested in doing the same.
Background info:
I purchased a 2013 E350 4M CPO with 13K miles in March 2015. I was content with the purchase for the most part until I caught the mod bug again. The plan of keeping the car stock didn't work out too well.
The first mod was a set of smoked side markers (stock amber was an eyesore). The second mod was a 35% ceramic tint on all four front windows including the rear followed by Piaa Stratos Blue 6K H7 light bulbs (didn't realize the car wasn't equipped with HID's until after the purchase ). The third mod was a cf trunk spoiler from ebay and debadged the trunk. The fitment wasn't perfect, so the body shop ended up using urethane adhesive to install the spoiler instead of the 3M mounting tape provided. The next mod was going to be an exhaust and amg quad tips with matching carbon fiber diffuser. Then I realized, why not just get an amg? Next thing you know...one thing lead to another, I ended up trading the E350 4M for a 2012 E63 with 28k miles CPO. And I must say, I am a happy camper and not looking back.
Without further ado, on to the pictures.

Great looking 212. Solid start on mods and looks like good road map for further execution.
and that 918 is just pure sex.

your car looks great. please post pictures of the gloss black window trim and trunk delete. i've been debating if to go gloss or flat but have been leaning towards glass from day one.
how does the car ride at the level you have it lowered in the picture? i'd love to lower mine too but am afraid the ride will suffer substantially.

Looks great. I love my 2012 AMG, best car I've ever had. My only issue is it's rough on the bumps and there are a lot of them on the R.I Roads. Rims bend very easily, one of these days I'll figure out how to prevent this, more solid rims I guess and maybe 18 inch instead of the 19's.

Thanks fellas.
Just came back from the shop. Sadly, the shop forgot that I was coming and ran out of the gloss black vinyl. I was tempted to go with the satin black but decided to wait for the gloss black. Will update next Saturday.
As for the ride with Renntech has, the car does feel stiffer but not harsh and it's not bouncy on the highway, which is common with the springs.

would you say the car is as stiff in C mode when lowered as it is in S or S+ when not lowered? i'm just trying to gauge how much stiffer it drives when lowered.

Car feels stiffer in C mode but soaks up the bump nicely. I'd say it's equivalent to S/S+ in stock form if not slightly stiffer. In S/S+, the car is noticeably stiffer but not to the point its bone jarring. Then again, the level of stiffness is different for everyone. I personally have high tolerance for stiffness given that I'm used to driving the s2000. Hope this is somewhat helpful.

Also, looks like your running stock (OEM) wheels. May I ask why you would need 10mm and 20mm spacers? Is it to clear your fender due to the Renntech Has and lowering links? Is it rubbing without the spacers?
Good luck.

Thanks David.
I might just add the door pins and the chrome seat controls. I read the rear door pins require some loctite so it doesn't pop out. This made me little hesitant but I guess I can give it a try. And the chrome seat controls, I was hoping to find one for sale in the classifieds. I recently saw one for sale for 250 (oem).
Now as for the spacers, I got them because I want the wheels to push out a bit to be flush with the fenders.

As for the seat control. No need to pay $250 for OEM, when you can get it for less than $31 on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321500405058?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
If you look at my photos, that is who I got my seat control from.
Spacers. I had asked about if adding spacers was safe because when I parted out with my old E350. I had 20" Vossen wheels with E350 specs to my E63 which required spacers ( 15mm ). Some say it was ok, some say they would recommended. If you don't absolutely need to add spacers, I wouldn't recommended. As a matter a fact. I'm thinking of getting the Vossen VSF2 with E63 specs. so I do not need spacers to be safe.
Good luck on your built and wanted to add one last thing. When you get the Renntech ECU and 200 cat downpipes. It will really transform the E63 into a beast.

David is exactly right... Easy job for door pins....buuuuuut
Keep in mind for the rear door pins, this eliminates the ability for a rear passenger to unlock the door at all. And when I say this I mean it has nothing to do with the child safety lock. Even if you refer to the W212 manual you will see that the only way to unlock the doors in the rear is to pull up on the OEM door pin
I am strongly debating on replacing the OEM door pins back in replacement of the rear AMG version for the safety of the rear occupants
David what are your thoughts? You and I and many other members have precious cargo sitting in the backseats of our rides…

^Thanks for the heads up Peter. Now that you mentioned it, I think I remember reading about it. Will keep this in mind since I do have a 5yr old daughter who rides in the back.

Guys,
Just replaced the door pins last nigh in my Gardge. Just as what Peter said, the front is a twist off and the rear are poop off ( pull up with a pair of pliers. Here is a photo of the old plastic door pins when they are taken off:
As far as safety is concern. My 8 year old always ride in the back so the safe lock ( can't open from the inside of the car ) is always on so we will always have to open the door for her when getting out of the car. Even with the new AMG door pins that can't be pulled up when located is actually same as the safety lock for me.
This provides extra safety that the kids don't accidentally open the door while the car is in motion. It also brings conform that you don't have to always tell your kid(s) to watch out the the car next to you or even behind you when opening the door so this is a plus for me.
Hope this help.

Nice. Was going to get that cover when I first got the car, then though to myself. My key fob is in my pocket 99.99% of the time and the only time it sees light of day is when I switch pants so opted to forgo it. Nice though.

They allow you to:
-Open the rear doors from the inside when the car is locked
-Globally unlocks all doors when interior handle is pulled
-You can still override this function by turning on the child safety lock and manually opening the rear door from the outside when the car is unlocked
In short the rear door pulls operate the exact same as the front door pulls with the added benefit of child safety locks should you choose to use that feature. Now I don't need to unlock the doors from the front or open a front door before the rear occupants can get out. MB just started putting the Euro locks on the W205 C-Class so I'd imagine more models will follow suit.
I'll post more info in my build thread soon- I've just been too backlogged with other stuff. The install was pretty straightforward with my experienced tech it took 2 hours per door. It's the actual locking mechanism in the door and latch that needs to be replaced. I highly recommend having an experienced installer doing the work as the whole inner workings of the door must be taken apart.
