MCT 7 speed ring gear upgrade?

So I was thinking a bigger final drive ratio would be a good way to make this slow car a little quicker. I did some research and came across this thread:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...-gear-c63.html

Referring to post #8...The R230 SL63...does that have the same 3.06 ring gear as the SL55? If so, it stands to reason that if that fits newer models with the 7 speed MCT, then in theory so will 3.55 gears (some have fitted 3.55 to the E55 and SL55 in the past).

Any insight into this from anybody in the know? I'd quite like to do a big ring gear swap on my car tbh. It'll make it much more fun to drive from 40-120-ish.

If it'll physically fit, would it still need lots of time invested in calibrating the transmission ECU and has anybody done this before?

On the 7 speed MCT the TCU is located in the transmission. Special equipment is need to recode it since it cannot be done via the OBD2 port as of now.

Ahhh crap.

And seeing as there is no love for the M156 platform, this option will probably never happen for anybody.

Oh well.....nice idea while it lasted.

Am i right in thinking that the E63 has the 2.82 final/diff gear and not a 3.06 as stock?

Seeing as that info chart states AWD I would discredit it instantly.

I'm in the same boat. I wanted to do a 3k stall and some shorter gears.

Yeah, Peter i think that's for the 2013+ turbo models.

I can't work out yet if the N/A W212 already comes with the 3.06 stock. I always thought it had the same transmission as the SL63, but then I guess the diff could well be different as it's a separate piece outside of the transmission case

Yes SL55 and SL63 both have slightly higher rear diff gear ratio. Just need a way to hack the TCU to accept the different ratio (which nobody has done yet....)

Hmmm...according to what Peter has posted here, it's also 3.06 for the RWD E63 model...inconclusive as to whether that's for the newer turbo models or the N/A one though.

I think that settles that then...but I'm a little confused about where it says it's the for the 2011 E63. I'll take your word for it, but I'm just curious to know where you got that from. Safe to say then that we've got the Speedshift version of the transmission (whatever that means) and the C class has the 'normal' one I guess. Looks like this mod is only for the C63 guys then. Unless of course the final drive gear is the same fitment as on the E55's and in that case, we could be brave and opt for the 3.55 ring gear from Richmond Gear or from a....Chrysler? And then have it programmed. I'll have a word with the guy from Germany to see if he'll be able to program the TCU for the 3.55 gear without the car at his workshop...in Germany.
