Car Locks with Key inside

Has this happened to anyone else? Recently my garage called me a few times to say the car locked with the key inside...Maybe the key battery is dying? Not sure what it could be since it's not suppose to lock with the key inside. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

how do they claim the lock is being activated? Are they touching the handle pad while the key is inside?
Just take it into the dealership to get checked out if it happens consistently.
You'll get a dash warning for a low battery long before you need to replace it.

They leave the key in the cup holder and now the car locks. Hasn't been a problem in the past....

I park in a garage in NYC too. My garage guys always leave the key in the cup holder. The delivery specialist at the dealership told me that this practice would drain the battery and doors may lock. I haven't had this happen to me yet, but my garage continues to leave the key in the car, so I guess it's just a matter of time (got the car in the beginning of September).

I've heard before that if you leave the key close to the car, they are always 'talking' back and forth, and that will lead to premature battery drainage. But, you will get a warning message saying your battery is low long before the batteries run out, and it doesn't sound like that is the case with the OP - so I don't think a low battery could be causing the issue.

The battery doesn't drain and the key works fine. I come down and unlock the car with the 2nd set and use the original key.
