well, this happened today
was traveling in the left lane of a two lane one way street in SB when some moron decided to turn left from the right lane of the one way right into my right rear door. The worst part is, she got out telling me I was in the wrong place! I f***ing lost it. It happened right in between the police station and the court house. So 2 SB sheriffs heard us and came over. Luckily the wagons a tank and both kids in the back were fine. This was just 2 hours ago, and I am still so pissed. Anyways, the point of the post is, does anyone have any experience dealing insurance companies and diminished value? Would really appreciate some tips and find out how it went for you. Thanks.

First of all I'm glad you're ok and this will be right again
I had the same almost identical accident by a 16 year old texting on my brand new 2014 e550 sedan ... $5k in damages and I have would have fought for diminished value but Mbusa bought the car back for what I paid for it due to a transmission problem we were already working through
It's definitely possible to gain the diminished value but it'll take some patience and is entirely dependent sometimes on her insurance
Sorry again this happened

Thanks Peter. Yes, I'm very thankful that both the kids were fine, that is the most important part. And it really didn't even faze them. Looks like they are replacing the rear door and quarter panel and bottom moulding and respraying the rest of the the right side. I guess it's not so bad; I had 3 or 4 knicks that had been bothering me anyways. Already talked to the other party's insurance, nationwide, and they seem pretty receptive to the diminished value claim. They also are worried about the rear suspension as they believe the right rear wheel took a hit as well. So apparently my body shop sends it to Mercedes for a couple days and mb techs sort out if there is a problem or not. I got a Tahoe in the meantime, after a day, I already miss my wagon more than I could of imagined.

From the looks of it, it does not look that bad, I think you will be fine with it. I'm pretty sure it will show up on carfax so the insurance co (nationwide) should compensate you for diminished value.

Sorry to hear what happened, but the main thing is everyone is alright.
Regarding the devaluation of the accident. One thing is for sure it'll show up on Carfax. Another thing for sure, the dealer or a professional car evaluator will sure one of those paint measuring devices to measure the thickness of the paint. If I remember correctly, factory specs. is like 3-5mm thick, after repaint, the thickness goes from 6-10mm. in which a professional can tell which part of the exterior has been repainted. I would fight tooth and nail for compensation.
Good luck.

^^^ Sorry to hear about your accident. Is the wheel damaged at all? Be diligent in pursuing your dimished value claim. I had a friend get one he had to go get appraisals after the damage was repaired to substantiate his claim. Good luck.
