I can't have a car without Distronic anymore. I've heard mixed views on the B&O system (I don't think I would build one with the system based on cost)and never seen a car with the acoustic glass. I'm working with my dealer to see what I can get the car for, so we shall see.

But I think the white car with Night Styling and Black wheels should look cool. Thoughts on the build?

op, glad you and your son is a-ok.

(father-type) question: what kind of car seats are the kids in? My 5YO was in an accident when he was 3, and the britax roundabout 55 worked well enough. your accident seemed a lot severe than the accident he (and his grandpa) were in, so I'm just curious.

TIA!

i've since added another britax round about and the recaro sport seat (which seems ridiculously redundant), but seeing most of these car seats aren't actually crash tested...

actually, I think I have 6 seats for 2 kids total, spread between 3 cars. It's a bit ridiculous, but it's also ridiculous how LATCH and ISOFIX aren't really compatible with older non-broken car seats.

Looks like we have a deal... I've got them down 10K off the price (~111K). I'd really like to get it under 110 but I'm not going to walk away over a grand. They have had the car 60+ days so maybe that's part of it. Sounds like a good deal to me, thoughts?

My son was in his booster seat using the car's seat belt to secure him and the seat to the car. When I looked back he was right where I left him and the seat belt had released. In the end he had very little bruising but was scared. I've never seen anyone look so white. Not sure that helps, but that method of using a seat proved safe to me. This seat did not have the latch system so the only method of securing it to the car was his weight and the seatbelt.

Hope that helps some.

Not a "deal" but like you I don't get worked up over a few grand at this price point. Take it and move forward you won't regret it later

Most reasonable people would be too ashamed to admit to parental negligence like this.

I think the OP gets this now

I give him credit for talking about because it starts a dialogue and many don't realize the safety issue involved

Sorry to hear about your wagon; glad everyone was OK.

That's sounds like a nice build. I'd expect about 10k off the total. I'm with you regarding distronic and wouldn't own a car without it anymore - the 2016s have steering assist and will steer the car as well so you have that to look forward to.

My 2014 e550 with distro steered the car while distro was on, what does the 2016 do differently?

^^ I don't know- I thought it was added in 2016 as a feature on the E (I know the 2014 S had it). FWIW my old 2014 C63 507 coupe with driver assist didn't steer itself.

Glad to hear you and your son were not hurt. I had a blowout yesterday due to road debris and had remind myself that the important thing is that no one was hurt.

Parental negligence? Srsly? Most reasonable people think before passing judgment on others.

I'm assuming you only let your own brats out of the house fully protected. Like this right?

If not then shut your judgmental trap and stf down.

I'm pretty sure they were not summer only tires, and it wasn't actively snowing. While I admit it wasn't the smartest thing, I would say its a far cry from negligence. I would think things like beat a kid, not feeding him or perhaps not using a child seat would be negligence. And if it really was that bad I'm sure the cop would have said something, no tickets involved and no one from child services either.

Its funny because both my e63 and GL 550 have the same "weather rating" (not sure the correct term) for tires. Based on hitting black ice in the middle of the turn it wouldn't have mattered what I was driving.

My 2014 had the steering assist.. I think it worked up to 35 or so. The odd part about it was to me it got more active the more miles I got on the car (ie: it learned). Since I take the same way to work and usually in traffic it appeared on certain turns it would turn more as the days went on. My only frustration was in slow turns the car never stayed close enough to navigate some turns (usually sharper turns) so it would go to wide. Still made stop and go traffic a lot easier

Thanks. While it was silly I never figured someone would bring up negligence... safety of the family comes first. But everyone is allowed an opinion.

I am glad you and your family is OK. Sounds like the car did its job, it is situations like this that remind me to always drive a Benz or something similar with high safety ratings.

Regarding your build, I think it will look great. IMO Diamond White over Black is the best looking combo for the E63. It allows several of the lines and details to pop.

Those appear to say simply "P ZERO" which are summer-only tires. And as for "not actively snowing" your own pics show the roads covered in snow and slush. Driving these tires in these conditions is shameful, and having no clue of the dangers is even worse.

But you're correct that "parental negligence" wasn't the best term. "Child endangerment" is more fitting. Sorry to sound so harsh, but you need some tough love since you don't appreciate the seriousness of this behavior. Nobody wants you and your loved ones to get hurt.

Hi everyone.
Thats an awesome ride . I love e wagons especially e63.
I was very surprised to see almost $60k in estimate...
At 20-30 mph !? Very strange. I dont want to imagine what will happen at 70mph into concrete freeway separator. I thought these cars are made very safe and strong.

Sorry it happened man, but as everyone said thank goodness you and the family are all ok. That one you found looks pretty loaded. I'd be super interested in the B&O System because the stock sound system is kind of lacking and usually options are worth VERY little on the aftermarket, so if you can pick that up used then enjoy!

Mercedes e350
2014 E63

A couple of years ago I bought a 2015 E350 wagon which had been in an accident and was salvaged. It took me 8 months to fix it and have really enjoyed the car. Buoyed by this yesterday I bought Afaedc63's car at auction. I did not personally look at the car and based my decision on what I read here. Sending a guy in a pick up and trailer today and hope to get the car up on a lift next week and start looking for parts. You all are probably wondering what I paid. The car got a lot of action and was pre bid before the auction started to $35,000. It has taken the insurance company a long time to get the car to auction so I now have a 2014 with less than 4,000 miles. The car was Hammered at $39,750. with fees $41,000 . I will spend $1500. to get it delivered to my home outside Chicago. It was sold at www.iaai.com outside of Boston. This is my 1st post here or anywhere for that matter and will do my best to share the trials and tribulations as the project goes forward. You guys must think I am a glutton for punishment but it was interesting doing the last one and hoping what I learned there will help with this one. My objective is to fix the car properly and drive it for a long time. Always the positive thinker many times to my demise my hope is to get the car back on the road for an additional $17,000.. When I did the e350 the original repair estimate was $45,000 and I spent $16,000 to get it repaired. On the surface it was worse than this one but thats coming from a guy who bought a car without personally inspecting it..
