Cooling mod time with 80 deg temps in Texas
Time to get the trunk tank in, duel I/C pumps and keyed on pump time. Running about 25 deg over ambient at hwy cruise in 75 deg air temps. Although on full dyno pulls, never see over 113 deg through 4th gear (real good). Normally, like to see about 10-15 deg over ambient in that warm of temp, so time to cool things down.

I still think some active cooling via a Kincaid Killer Chiller would be ideal. no need for bigger Heat Exchanger or trunk tank and leaky lines to worry about.

All the M157`s IATs run generally cool and even after being tuned at WOT. They run way cooler than the M113 Kompressor cars and at higher boost . On a full dyno pull in 80 deg heat, with tune, I only hit 113 deg IAT VS my modded CL55 can get over 140 deg easily. I know the 14`s have a separate IC system but even on the 12`s that did not have the separate fill tank, they still do not get much if any radiator water cross flow. If so, the IAT`s at cruise would be much hotter.
I think MB separates the system for the air pocket issues and service more than shear cooling. The basic weakness with the IC sytem is water capacity, pump flow speed and allowing the ECU to control the pump. So, trunk tank add second pump (2 pump system)and large water capacity to keep cool water flowing during a boost run. Last, is to separate the pump from the ECU and hook up to keyed power. At least this is my near term cooling mod list.
I have run trunk tanks for 7-8 years and never had a leak. Just drop it in next to the spare and forget about. In Texas, I like to stay away from any cooling mods that tap into our AC unit, as I want all the freon blowing on me in this brutal heat

Out Of Control!!
You have a freon leak in your A/C system??? Or you just don't know how freon works . None should be blowing on you in a properly working system

the mod shown was necessary for the M113k engines.. for the M157/278 maybe a small engine mounted reservoir, good IC pump and small H/E might be package.
I have yet to measure IAT's with a tuned M278.. but I have felt the different in So Cal heat days of 90d or more... the engine simply does not want to produce full boost.
With E85.. it has cured that just a bit.. but having more volume of water, better pump and dedicated H/E would not hurt at all. Most of these parts should not cost a fortune.
