Vibration in the front end / steering wheel. What are the possible causes?
My dealer has a service where they drop off a loaner and drive my car to the shop. Had some work done on the car and after it is returned, driving it at highway speeds 70-80 mph, there is a distinct vibration coming through the steering wheel and the brake pedal. I called the dealer and told them about the problem and my suspicion that one of the drives must have hit a fairly deep pothole and that one of my wheel must be bent.
Dealer takes the car back and says all the wheels are balance properly and agrees that they too feel the vibration. Their next hypothesis is that one of the tires must be bad.
Now, I don't know how a wheel could be balanced AND have a bad tire? Regardless, as I'm running snow tires and they are all the same size, I ask the dealer to switch the tires from the back to the front and front to the rear, balance them again and see what happens.
I'll find out tomorrow what they find out. If it still vibrates, I guess I'll take my summer wheels to the dealer to eliminate the possibility that one of the winter rims is out of true (although they disagree with my hypothesis).
If it isn't the wheels, what could it be? I wonder if it is a loose engine mount? I would think that if it was suspension, I would feel it at lower speeds?
Please let me know what your guess is as to whats going on?
