Took some pictures of some of the parts going onto our latest E63 AMG build and thought you guys would enjoy them. We'll post some more turbo upgrade stuff next week- until then ...
Whats being changed in the turbo exactly? Looks like stock housings. I'm excited to see the build and another alternative to AMS and Weistec.
Billet wheels and machined housings. Springs are different. Tuning is different. As before, the TCU remains the limiting factor in terms of 1/4 mile and 0-60 performance, but the HP gains are there and- at higher, 130+ MPH speeds like what you'd see at mile or roll events- there are gains.
We're mostly 1/4 mile guys. Our customers are, too, so I'd be just as likely to talk you out of these than into them until the TCU issue is resolved. Now that we're working on a standalone ECU, though ...

You guys doing anything to the hot side? ( I assume a wheel clip at minimum, but still waiting to see if anyone is up for doing turbine wheel upgrade too).

The turbos are part of our PKG2 for the car, which is 12500 on our website and includes 200 cell downpipes, tune, and drop-ins. That PKG is good for approx. 800 HP on pump gas.

The standalone is some way off, but 800+ HP PKG is available now with the factory ECU. We have it on our site for $12500 ... I'd do $11K for board members who would put some SD badges/stickers on the car without even flinching.
PM me. We can pencil in some real delivery dates and final numbers and see where it goes. Extra bonus points for using the emoji more than twice in a single thread!

The platform and aftermarket support is what appealed to me buying my E63.

Is this a replacement turbo, or would I need to take the old turbos off and send them in for the upgrade?
I know you said it is a way off, but what can you talk about the standalone TCU? I'd assume with this upgrade, it would allow for a more rapid power delivery (aka, faster 0-60 and everything else after that time).
Are you thinking it's 6 months out, or 3 years out, now holding you to anything, just curious. I'd rather buy everything at once and then proceed with the upgrades. (standalone TCU included).

We've done both- the billet wheel upgrades (which are these, you get back a fully rebuilt and rebalanced turbo) and the GT28 swap (again, custom housings) but without the ability to control the TCU, there is no real-world gain in the GT28s. Heck of a dyno queen, though!
As for the standalone ECU/TCU, my feeling is that 6 months is about right. We'll have a solution this winter, at any rate. If you were a local guy and could live as a beta tester for a few months, it might accelerate that timeline- but, as you say, you have your toy. This is more of a daily.
So ... you tell me? Want to be on the bleeding edge of E63 go-fast?

I'd be seriously interested in the replacement TCU, the lag off the line is the one really annoying thing with these M157 cars. Any idea what it might end up costing and how hard the installation would be?

Again, guys- it's a standalone ECU, and it will control the TCU without pulling fuel and timing according to the factory TCU's prescribed torque limits. We wouldn't send it out as a DIY install. It would be at Speedriven only.

Ah, so it's the ECU that limits things with the transmission? I always thought that the problem was with the TCU itself which is why none of the tuners can sort the issue with their tunes.
What about the mechanically inclined California people
Until it's ready to go as a plug-n'-play and we've had a few months of real world testing that we can scan and data log? We're not RENNtech or Brabus or even Hennessey that can rest on twenty years of propaganda and then come out and start taking orders on products that don't exist. We have to put our best foot forward when a car goes out with our name all over it, and that means some of you are gonna have to wait.

It's a little of both. As I understand it, it's the TCU that reads (what it considers to be) excess torque, then sends a signal to the ECU to cut power. The factory ECU cannot ignore that message, and cuts the fun. So, either someone gets into the TCU and finds a way to tell it to not send that message, someone finds a way to intercept that message and tell the TCU things are cool, or someone replaces the ECU with one that will the TCU to go f*** itself and just shift when it's told.
If that last option also adds features like launch control, flex fuel sensing, and rolling anti-lag, then so much the better. You know?

All that data is encrypted... if it wasn't, it would be exposed by now. What you guys should do is hire a hacker... preferably one that speaks German.

Eventually someone- maybe MKB/Renntech or Brabus- will grease the right palm at Bosch (who also happens to sell tuning tools, LOL!) and they'll get in. The information will spread quickly from there.
Even with that, though, there will be limitations hardwired into the firmware, and it won't be as good as a standalone that offers full control and allows the programmer to determine what those limits should and will be. So why take that intermediate step at all?

This never happened with any previous platform so why would it happen now?
