Collapsed intake tubes

Anyone else have their intake tubes fail? The glue on mine has been beginning to fail and the wraps were slowly getting loose. Opened the hood this morning to find one of tubes unraveled and almost completely sucked into the air box and the other starting to do the same. I understand these are more resistant to heat but who at MBseriously thought paper/cloth intake tubes were a good idea and would withstand heat and handling???

I have one coming apart. I am going to try and make some hard tubes like the carbonio "python" tubes for the w211/19s to replace mine.

mine did and an had to order new ones online ... they seem to better for heat dissipation at the cost of deteriorating and coming apart pretty easily.

someone coming up with a cheap set of aftermarket ones would be a pretty could idea but until then i just monitor mine closely as i open my hood everytime i wash my car (once a week)

Yeah, warranty covered mine but I'd imagine there would be a decent demand for a fairly priced aftermarket upgrade.

Yep my left intake seemed to have holes in it and was tearing and this was at 1200 miles! They replaced it .. It's that cheap black cloth material

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Could somebody post a picture of what they look like damaged? Mine seem to look ok, I always assumed they were Aluminum or something, never really thought of them damaging easily.

Mine are already replaced so I can't take any pics but they're just a 1.5" cloth wrap/tape around a plastic wire (similar to weed wacker wire) for support. You'll first start to notice the wraps separating then if enough layers become separated like mine you end up finding the wrap and plastic wire all sucked into the air box.

Thanks, I'll check them out, wow if those had holes you'd be sucking dirt into the engine, not good.

The tubes are pre filter so you don't have to worry about dirt but I'm sure I lost a lot of air flow with the wrap sucked up against the filter and the air that was getting through was all hot air coming off the radiator.

I just had a look at mine and they do look like a poor solution. At least mine aren't falling apart yet.
