Discovered a feature.
Got bored sitting in traffic this morning. Discovered on my e63 that if you pump the brake pedal it'll engage some kind of hold mode and will hold the brakes in traffic.

True enough. My 2007 Lexus LS460 had the same feature. If you just push hard enough it will engage, no pumping required.

If you pump and press - it'll show HOLD. Then, if you hit the accelerator, it'll release on it's own. If you press the brake again, it'll turn HOLD off.

This feature had been present in all E classes and is listed in the user manual as well. It is seamless and I find this system more intuitive than "BMW hold feature" where you have to push a button on the steering wheel.

I wonder if this will work for race start.
Probably not. Touching the gas will probably turn off the hold, as designed.
