C63S vs E63S
Hi guys
Ive own my C63S for nearly a year now and am a little bored of it.
Ive always like the M157 and was thinking about the E63S, the engines been around longer and performance mods are better priced from what I can see, it would be a daily driver and something to take to dyno days.
We dont get the AWD model here in south africa , would that be a big issue?
Has anyone owned the two cars and can give me some of their own experiences?

Past: 2016 E63S Wagon, F80 M3
I test drove the new C63S before deciding on E63S wagon. It really depends on your need. C63S feels nimbler while E63S feels more like a cruiser. I thought the C63S interior, while looking more modern than E63, wasn't up to par in terms of quality. The 4wd and the wagon form sealed the deal for me. One thing to consider though is that the new E63 is coming out soon.

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
from 0-130mph the e63 awd will lead the e63 rwd, after that the rwd e63 will take over
from a roll the rwd e63 will pull on awd e63
so yes, most cases the awd e63 is the one to have

As mentioned above: interior quality wise and general feel of the car - E > C, as simple as that. Same as even basic S > AMG E.
If you're lucky to be in the market where RWD is available for 600+ hp cars - take it. I'm in such a market and having a blast with my E63S every day. And if you want proper AWD - take an RS6, or a Panamera, or a 911 Turbo(S). Though the latter two are in a different price category, but generally & from experience VAG AWD > all (especially true on the 911TS porkers - they way they put traction to the ground is beyond anything), fact.

In Australia we only get the M157 RWD S versions too. I came from a tuned V10 RS6 and at first I missed the off-the-line grip, but now I appreciate the fun of a powerful RWD (particularly since it was tuned!) and also the extra skill involved in driving it.

if you want to use all the power all the time, once you get over 600whp, awd is the way to go... i knew when i bought my car that i was planning on going over 700whp (now 800whp with the W4 kit coming out) so awd was the way to go for me as i dont like having to run drag radials on the street and worry about rain or rolling into throttle gently ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
i while ago had a 800whp 88' mustang and it was fast as hell at the prepped track on MT et's, but worthless on the street even on R888's proxies.... even with drag radials on the street wasnt much better and if i ever got caught in the rain (FL 50/50 chance each day lol) then it was a nightmare having to drive like grandma back home![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
there's a reason all the top 1/2 mile street cars are awd (ugr lambo has the most recent 2 records and GTR was record before that )

lets say from 30-40 up to 130
would the AWD still pull the RWD up until 130 in that case?
with this much power I wouldn't be surprised if even from a low speed roll it would spin and lose traction while the AWD will take off right away.

are you stock or tuned?
a tuned rwd e63 even at 40 might lose to a tuned e63s as it may still break traction at that speed.
For me it's a win/win as even from a roll I usually never need to start higher than 40.

I recently had a chance to drive my friend's 2010 M6 coupe with some Dinan mods. I absolutely love the sound of that NA V10 at high RPM but the real wheel drive simply was not up to the task of putting that power to the ground with the M button on. Sure, it was fun to slide around corners and light up the rears, but going back to my car made me very happy to have AWD. His car reminded me of a very sophisticated version of my first car which was a 1966 Pontiac GTO; fun in an adolescent way but ultimately not as practical for high performance driving.
