m157 ignition coils

Does anybody know if there is a difference between coil packs on different m157 motors. My local tunner said in order to run a more aggressive tune I have to change my coil packs to the 14+ coils. I called the dealer and they said that there all the same part number with the exception of the S63.

What was the tunners comment when you ask for a part number or brand or article and did you do a google search on the topic??

I didn't ask the tunner anything yet, I will ask them when I already know the answer. The only thing I found on line was in a spark plug thread here, someone mentioned changing there coil packs and plugs. Something about the newer models having a better design. Not much info out there, it may be that the dealer kept the same part number but changed them which is pretty common.

never heard anything about coils for tune and none of the major tuners require updated coils (weistec, ams, renntech)

I have no clue, it could be a stronger spark or it could be something as silly as different mounting tabs. My local dealer didn't have them in stock so I couldn't compare them side by side. It's time for me to change my plugs but I don't know if I buy into needing new coils.

pretty sure the 14+ models improved both spark plugs and coils from the previous years.

The coils have been updated on the later cars, the old part number is no longer available.

Why all the talk? Has anyone actually had any misfire issues that weren't plug related?
