Considering an E63 S
Hello All,
I'm new to the forum and over the past few months, I've been considering getting an E63 S. I recently sold my 09 911 C4S and prior to that an E46 M3. I'm needing something a bit bigger as those 2 aren't as friendly for a family of 4. I've been keeping an eye out for a decently optioned 2014-2016 model and landed on the one linked below. I've asked for service records, close up pictures of the interior, tire tread, brakes and carfax. Depending on what I get back, I'm sure I'll ask additional questions. Looking to hear you all's opinion on the one linked as well as guidance on what to look for when buying used. This car is out of warranty as well. Thanks!

First off welcome. The decision to buy a W212 MY14-16 is a wise one. That one in particular I would opt out from me personally. Secondly I don't recognize the wheels on that vehicle. Below is a link as to the difference between the 14-16's that is from the forum. Also I have expressed the reason to go for the MY16 over 14&15 and the new w213 with hideous tacky large display screen interior, soft rear end and a pussified smaller S. Lastly definitely get a third party inspection PPI.

Thanks for the reaponse and resources. I’ll read your post on going with the 16. The wheels are Vossen aftermarket which is a reputable brand.

Vossen ok. Are the original rims included with the vehicle. ..if not why not were they damaged...another reason to look at the MY16 in years to come you will own the last year production of the true 5.5 L V8 beast along with the last year MB kept the classic interior trim that most will miss over the the new large ugly display screen so tacky that looks like nasa control room. Furthermore the interior dashboard and all around looks as if they copied Japanese automakers.

The new E doesn't do it for me like others. Few more horsepower, 9MCT over the 7 but the overall look, sound and making it look like a smaller S and the back like an Altima doesn't have me wanting to trade or sell my 2016 for it. I despise vehicles with an digital odometer and trim looking like a space craft. There is no more feel of a car but almost as if you're sitting inside a videogame cockpit. I'll pass. I grew up with old school cars because of family and they new age stuff don't like. Especially the interior of the new E63S.

if they have no clue as to what happened to the wheels that to me personally would push me to pass on the car. Why because who knows how badly the previous owner beat that car up. They could have been damaged from his lack of caring for the car. Low miles doesn't sell me on a car.

MY17 S63AMG - MBUSA Buyback. MY16 SL63 - Sold MY19 W213 E63s. 2020 W213 E63s Wagon
A AMG E63 with aftermarket wheels to me indicate the previous owner likes to mod his car weather its cosmetic or performance. Maybe this car even has a ecu tune that comes with the car and the new owner may not even know unless he/she ask their local Mercedes dealer scan the car for upgrades. I would walk away for the fact that its not a CPO car from a Mercedes dealer nor does it have warranty. You do NOT want to own a Mercedes out of warranty.

Any information on the accident shown in the carfax? That, combined with the replacement wheels, would make me wonder about suspension damage. It would be wise to have a Mercedes dealer give the car a once over.

The fact it has after market wheels doesn’t mean it’s a bad car to buy. Original owner could of sold the OEMs and bought these wheels. A lot of E63s owners here have after market wheels too. Heck I have 2 sets of wheels and I baby my car in mint condition.
However do your due diligence on the car and I would buy a 2014/15/16 any of those years. As long as it fits the bill and you are happy with it.

For that price tag of $51k you will not be able to find a CPO at that low mileage. So it depends what you want and what is in your budget.

Great decision. I am almost 35 years old. I have long history with Subaru automotive. Sold my two STI's and my Golf R recently. I just bough a 2014 E63s AMG 4matic. So happy with it. have done a stage 1, RENNtech tune, MaisterShaft exhaust, RENNtech air filters .... I feel so happy and the car is a rocket. Willing to change my wheels since I think stock wheels are small. The above white E63 you are trying to get is nice except the wheels although Vossen is a well reputed manufacturer but they have better look wheels for the E. Good luck.

Good to hear. I'm even considering a higher mileage 50k ish as well - with the fact that regardless the cars I'm looking at are out of warranty mine as well get a slightly higher mileage assuming a full inspection is done. I can use the extra cash for a few mods.

Selling my 31K mile 2014 E63S. Covered by ELW through 09/2020 or 100K miles.
One owner. Serviced on time, or before, always at best local MB dealer.

def a lot of those out there. Test driving one tomorrow at the local MB dealer with warranty for about 5k less than what you have. Not to get into a back and forth.

I was comparing to the one you posted at beginning of thread. That one was a bit sketchy.

This..... You want all the information on the accident and repair. There is a reason the car is lower priced than most others. As mentioned, a clean car from a MB dealer with those miles should be CPO and will cost more... If not, there is a reason. I passed on several "good" deals that had questionable history. Paying this much for a car, you want to know if will be worry free. Many times I found cars were purchased at auction. There is a reason. If a car is traded in and has good history, the dealer won't send it to an auction. IMO.
