Not an S, but my wife's daily put down 471rwhp/518rwtq with UPD's spacers/filters & the QTP cutouts open. This was pre-tune & UPD harmonic balancer install. I haven't had the chance to dyno since, but the butt-dyno can tell a difference up top. When I opened up the factory air boxes I was amazed (& disappointed) at how restrictive they are.

Typically, it would be a "underdrive" pulley. This slows down the belt for the alternator, air conditioner and power steering pump. It can help pickup a little HP.

I believe that these cars have "electric" power steering so, it wouldnt effect that.

Joking aside, I thought that Cold Air Intakes were kind of like "THIS ADDS 20 HP TO MAH 1995 SWAPPED CIVIC YO...<ATTACH AEM STICKER>...FWD4LIFE"

I remember in the Porsche world some guy dyno'd with no intake whatsoever and with the stock intake from like 2002 and they made the same power.

I have a hard time believing that in 2014 when they redesigned the intake on a 100k car they were like "well Hans, we'd love to use a slightly larger intake so we don't lose power unnecessarily since our brand depends on superior hp numbers...but nah...we'll never do as well as some guys in SoCal with cool marketing and more carbon fiber. SEND IT OUT AS IS"

<Note - none of this is based on any facts>

Intakes on NA car's are usually worthless. FI is a totally different animal. I gain 55 whp going to a 4.5" intake and 102 MM TB on my CTS V. Turbo cars with restricted intakes do not make the same boost. You can pull the intake off and run open turbo and pickup a noticable increase in boost. 1-2psi in some cases. UPD intakes have had 3 independent dynos, 2 of which showed 15-20 whp gains. I run them and could tell an immediate difference up top. For the cost, its a no brainer.

Before and after done on the dyno myself. I made several dyno pulls, allowed the car to cool for a few minutes, swapped the intake spacer in, warmed up car, made several more pulls...... All while still strapped to the dyno.
Made 18rwhp/26rwtq over a k&n filter in stock intake housing

Did it make the majority of the power up top?

I came across this thread when researching them

https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/637901-upd-intake-dyno-results.html

seems here like the filters were better. Is it different for facelifted cars?

Did you come across the reviews that are posted in this thread also?
