Input on ordering OEM turbos
So Mercedes Benz themselves only sell remanufactured M157 turbos with an additional core charge, whereas I can buy direct from Garrett themselves for less than MB AND they are brand new not remanufactured, with no core charge, and a 1 year warranty. Seems like a no brainer obviously, but I didn't know if anyone would suggest ordering through Mercedes over Garrett.
Any input on this would be great. Thanks.

Garrett makes the entire turbo assembly for Mercedes, its the OEM supplier. Turbo, Wastegate, and Manifold. The factory turbos have garrett stickers all over them. There is no modification needed. Just curious if anyone had experience with this before on turbo replacement.

Slightly off topic but in my experience with old BMW parts the remanufactured designation can be misleading, for example engine blocks are listed as remanufactured but it's because they recycle the core.

There are plenty of companies out there that can modify the factory turbo to keep it factory appearing externally, but upgrade the wheels and add porting for better flow. At that point, it would still be the same piece externally and bolt on and fix exactly as the stock turbo did. Also, unless you are chasing records with a purpose built car, most minor turbo upgrades like I mentioned will be more than enough for most street driven cars
