What kind of oil?
What are you using? I've been using the OE suggested Mobil 1.
I had found on my M156 CL63 and my two hot rod 55's that the viscosity just wasn't quite enough for our really hot temps down here. Wonder if it's the same for the 157?
A good many of my acquaintances are using Motul now. I was skeptical, but I do use it in my Porsche with excellent results. To me, I seemed to have a much quieter drivetrain with the slightly heavier oil.
Thoughts, experience?
Thanks..

Interesting BadMan, your situation sounds exactly like mine. I think oil consumption is par for the course these days, but any improvement would be good. I'm going to try the Motul and see what happens, I'm about due for a fluid change. Look like you have high ambients where you are from also, I wonder it they offer it in a 5/40?
Thanks for the input.

I’m using the recommended oil right now but I heard that liduid moly is the best oil period made in Germany, they also just came out with a bright flouresent green engine oil, I guess it’s easier to see if you have a leak , I might try this myself

Liqui moly 5w40 leichtlauf in the purple jugs best stuff out there
The green oil doesn't meet 229.5

I just changed from Mobil 1 to Amsoil. I've used this in my motorcycle and 4 wheeler. Gonna try in E63s. So far, the engine seems smoother.
I too was loosing a qt. of oil in between changes. But, I do track the car occasionally.

My Mercedes tech is sold on Liqui Moly and has installed it in his shop. Might be another good option.
After my last couple experiences in 156 and 157, I'm just not sure Mobil One is the right stuff for the heat down here. My Porsche guy swears that it breaks down way too quickly in these late model Porsche engines, which do run super hot.

Quick update....i did an oil change with the 5/40 Liqui Moly purple stuff. Obviously, too soon to tell, but I will tell you, I immediately was shocked by how much quieter my valvetrain was. We will see about the consumption, stand by....

However mine came in a Navy blue bottle even though Amazon showed purple oil
Also it seems less viscous than the Mobil one I have been using all along despite being a 5W instead of a 0W like the Mobil1

I want to try the liquid moly too but you guys are saying it’s thicker than the recommended oil. I would be concerned with the tight tolerances of the engine the oil won’t feed certain areas , and cold starts when the engine is dry being very important for the oil to get to theses spots as fast as possible,

You guys were spot on about Liquid Moly.
I used their Proline engine flush, idled the car for ten minutes then drained the old Mobil 1.
Added eight quarts of the Leichtlauf purple jug 5W-40 and a can of their Ceratac additive.
Took a short drive - car definitely has a much smoother idle and the engine runs quieter.
This stuff really works - thanks for the suggestion.
