Update on mine

The paperwork from dealer said “control arm spring” Hmmmmm????

Anyway they replaced it and the driver side front strut and everything seems perfect now.

They also flashed TCU with the latest update and the ECU too. The ECU update wont do a lot for me though as I am using the tuned ECU. Trans performance does indeed feel better though. I know, this is a bit off topic. All related to same service though.

Vrodman - while off topic, you have my attention about dealer flashing the TCU and latest ECU update.....any details as to what those were for? I was just in the MB Chicago dealer downtown for service an NO mention of those items.

When I took the car in for the other stuff, I requested a TCU update due to some strange shifting. Initially my SA tried telling me “We dont just flash TCU’s with updates unless there is something verified by our tech as wrong during a test drive”. He set me up with the head AMG mechanic that I already knew from my 2011. I couldnt get the thing to act up while he was in the car. But he said since they were doing the trans service anyway, he would do the SW update. Then the paperwork later said something about ECU updated due to the TCU getting updated. That’s all I know. Everything is working well so far even with the tuned ECU that doesnt have the update.

Ideally, I would have gotten the update prior to the cloning of the 2nd ecu. Oh well, not going to worry about it until I have a reason to.

In regards to your specific question, nothing was on the paperwork that described the update details whatsoever. Sorry Bud.

My driver side squeaks all the time. High pitched noise. Especially in a drive through or when driving by a wall it is very easily heard. Dropped it off at Mercedes and they told me "replacing shock or bushing wont fix issue". They said "this is a normal noise and is normal for e63".

I just had mine at the dealer and it was the control arm bushings; they replaced under warranty and all squeaking is gone thankfully!

How many miles do you have on your car? Also what were your symptoms? My noise sounds like its only from the driver side. But the dealer is saying "replacing control arm bushing wont fix anything". And trying to say this is NORMAL. Definitely not, when driving places and in a parking lot the whole car shouldn't be squeaking.

Mine started at about 30,000. There was a squeaking noise coming from just the front drivers side; would happen when I climbed in/out of the car and when driving and hitting any bumps where there would be suspension travel

I have had for 2 years a groaning sound from the front end that occurs when turning the steering wheel left or right at very slow speeds...at times i can feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel when it happens.

its loudest when temperatures are very hot. MB chicago says they cannot replicate the issue after 3-4 visits now.

***Would the control arm have anything to do with this? I dont get any creaking or noise over bumps which the control arm is typically the culprit of.... this has to be a steering column issue or what????

How are your brake pads? I had similar noises at slow speeds, more often when hot, that I thought was the 'moaning strut bearing' noise but it all went away when I put new pads and rotors on...

front brakes are about 50% and pretty good.... i get the noise when coasting (no brakes applied) and turn the steering wheel slightly say 1/4 turn either left or right and the groan is there.... its definitely gotten progressively worse so am hopeful the next dealer visit will finally sort it out...

Yeah, I got the noises while coasting, my noises were a little lower in pitch, more like moaning but sound similar to your video. Keep in mind that the pads are always in slight contact with the rotor, even when the brakes aren't applied.

I have had the same symptoms around 20K miles. I had my lower control arm replaced. I also have squeak/creaking noise from strut before, which according to the dealer is not a replacement item. They got lubercated like 3 times for the same issue over and over again. Also have had squeaking from brakes, my entire set has to be changed at 28K miles on street only driving.

When the left front spring link arm was replaced the dealer also performed an alignment.

For anyone who "gots" the squeaks and are still driving your car around...

And, look at how the "Cross strut" (Not control arm, according to MB) was rubbing (notice the polished section. I can see now why that WD40 I sprayed in silenced it some)
Ball joint gone bad at 30K?-xhumiy2.jpg

I had visually inspected all the rubber components on the driver's side while changing out wheels... all EXCEPT this one that was covered by the under tray. This was quite apparent during my last oil change. I don't understand why the whole arm has to be changed instead of just changing out the bushing (Guessing they can't charge you $200 plus labor for a piece of rubber).
Finally got this sorted out.... and, since I had to get an alignment (not so much according to the mechanic but b/c I listen to you gents) I took the opportunity to throw in the KW HAS kit (Woohoo!!! More rubbing!)

Easy remove and replace? I imagine this will be an every 30k item for the cars with the M157.

I suppose that for a skilled mechanic with the proper tools it should be pretty straight fwd.

Our car had a failure on the lateral driver's side front control arm/rod (the one that is perpendicular to direction of travel, not the one that goes off at an angle from the knuckle) - seal on the ball joint failed and was creaking really loudly when wet. No impact to driving, happened around 40,000 miles. Replaced under warranty, along with a 4-wheel alignment. Would have been a dawdle to change if it happened out of warranty.

I responded to a similar post about a week ago: https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...y-squeaky.html

I think we are all talking about the same part. MB calls it a "Cross Strut".

If we are talking about the same part, I paid just about $200 for part itself (OEM from a dealer online), at the same time of install I also threw in KW HAS (Lowering kit) + Alignment. ~$800 (Labor) from a Speedshop. Did you go to the Stealership?

Same thing happened to my '14 E63S driver's side control arm. Here is the MB OEM part number for those interested. This same part fits both sides. Two bolts hold it on.
