CLS63 AMG
Hmm, what about the CLS63S? I will say, if your ok with a comfy 4 seater its also a good choice. It also looks more "cohesive" with the facelift design, as the more rounded shape of the body flows perfectly with it, unlike the W212 which is mixing hard/angular lines with flowy/rounded bumpers/lines. I think interior quality and materials as well are improved.

Having owned both, W212 & W213 in terms of stock exhaust, hands down W213 has it any day of the week, people here saying stock for stock the W212 sounds better hasn't driven a W213 E63s with performance exhaust in race mode. Sounds a million times better. Once catless however, is when the M157 truly sounds amazing the barky downshifts is intoxicating to say the least. Interior quality/ material is around the same, but the plastic window switches and knobs are now gone and replaced with chromed out plastic, looks better but still feels cheap. Space wise I would say W213 makes it seem like it's bigger on the inside but the actual dimensions between the two I believe are not too far off. Exterior styling, W212 all day long. The ride quality in the W212 is more supple but as far as handling goes the W213 is much better, more composed in tighter turns ( also the benefit of rising your vehicle over ridiculously tall driveways in socal is a plus in my book, even when lowered.) The transmission simply isn't great on both generations of the E63, seems like there is always a bit of jerk in between the gears, for my W212 it was downshifting from 4th to 3rd and now in my W213 it's from 2nd-1st. And to people comparing interior quality from a E300 to a E63... just why?

interesting.

Curious ... why would the production quality on an e63 interior be any different than the e300 quality?

yes the e63 has nicer seats and some textures ... but what else is dramatically different about a 2018 e63S interior compared to the e300 (loaded)?

Peter, some of the difference I notice between the W213 E300 and E63s are sound system, steering wheel, leather, instrument cluster software ( AMG ).

Your logic is sound my friend. When I mentioned my experience driving the E300 loaner I said that of course the materials and such would be nicer in the E63. That seems to have been missed by Izzy. I also pointed out that I was speaking to the general layout and architecture of the W213 interior. This meant that unless the dash shape and layout and the console shape and layout are different between the W213 E300 and the W213 E63 then I am simply not a fan. I prefer the W212. As I also mentioned, the W212 has more of a "cockpit" feel to it in my opinion because of the dash and console layout. Which unless I am mistaken the E63 and E300 are basically the same. Just to be clear by shape and layout, I do not mean what gauges or bells and whistles they have. I mean the outline shape of the dash and console.

So that is "why".

Cheers

Lol with the exception of a few buttons on the side of the gear shift lever and a different center console in the 63, the layout of the regular W212 E classes & E63 is the same. Mercedes recycles and milks the **** out of their design, the console in the E63 is straight out of the W204 C63 but hey I guess it is a "different" layout than a regular E if u want to nitpick

I think there is still a disconnect here. Let's look at just the front passenger area for a moment. When you sit in the W213 don't you notice that it seems as though there is much more open feeling? As though the dash is further away from your knees than in the W212? It just has a different feel. That's all I am saying. Not trying to "nitpick" Both cars are awesome in their own ways. I was never trying to shoot down your W213 or anyone elses. This was never intended to be taken personally by anybody. The OP opened up the question. He received replies. This was to be expected.

I am pretty much done here with this thread.

Enjoy both of your cars.

BTW. If you go with the W212, someone already took the big retail value hit for you vs W213 you’ll be hit with the value in the first 2 years of ownership.
I think it’s a fair assessment to say that in the first two years in the life of most cars is where it takes the biggest depreciation hit.

I think there is more head room with the 157. 10k gets you to 1k hp. Weistec iirc w.4 kit for a 157 tops out at 1400+ with pistons & rods (<1500) hp. M177 w.3 claims 876hp which would be what an m278 puts down with hybrid turbos and meth (ecu). Morendi mentioned that the 9 speed stall speed can be raised a bit higher without issue vs the 7 speed.
