Thinking About a Used 2010

So I'm thinking about picking up a used 2010 E63 but I'm a little hesitant to pull the trigger because I'm afraid of reliability. I know these cars have some sort of head bolt issue (not sure what it is) but I was wondering if there was a TSB out for that. I'm currently trying to get with the dealership that serviced the car I test drove today to see if the head bolt issue was ever fixed on it. It's being sold by a Ford dealership and they do have the option of purchasing an extended warranty but the MB dealership was pushing me toward a C400 over the E63 (probably because they don't have one). Thanks in advance.

Get the engine number and check info online if the engine is in the number range of the failing head bolts. Also, be aware of the high maintenance cost. FYI front brakes and rotors will cost $800.00 to $1500.00 or more. transmission service 500.00 and is needed every 40k miles.

Maybe throw in a few more bucks and get a 2012 biturbo E63. I think the 2010`s had the valve train issues fixed by then but better to double check , as this was a major , major cost!!

Or throw in even less than a "few more bucks" and get a 2011?? Can't imagine it is much more and the 2011's are nearly clear of the head bolt issue. However, you still should run the VIN to be safe.

Where do I find the engine number?

The wife gave me the green light for a new motorcycle within the next year which taps into my car budget so I'm maximizing it as much as I can. I want an E63 but the C400 and Infiniti Q60 3.0T are also on my radar,

If the price is right but like you said I'd still double check it.

No engine number needed. Just the VIN. Call any SA at any MB dealership and they can run the VIN and tell you if it's OK. There is also a guy on here that you can PM. I will look and try to find his name. I just forgot it. Should be in my mailbox though.

It is “valvestud”. That is the guy you want to PM and verify a VIN is clear or affected by the head bolt issue. I just went and found my PM exchange with him from 3 years ago! Haven’t heard from him in awhile on this board. But I bet he will help you out within 24 hours.

Good Luck.
