DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE!! REAR IF YOU DIDNT KNOW!!
So long story short, the rear tire blew on my 2011 E63 while someone had it. The tire was replaced with a spare which was shorter in diameter (the height of the tire from the ground to the top of it). The car was driven for a while.
I've fitted a tire of the same size to the original rear wheel and fitted it to the car. The cars been sitting for a while (about 2 months) after it was driven on the spare. Now when you drive the car there's a whining sound and it increases when you turn around a bend.
I assume the diff is gone due to the different tire diameters on the rear.
Which cars have a compatible diff? The W212 BiTurbos have a different ratio I think. I'm not sure about the W211 E63. If anyone can help it would be really good. I can't believe a bad tire has done this.
Can I rebuild the diff? I assume getting an LSD isn't going to solve the issue or is it? Which components need to be retained and which have likely failed in this situation?
Thanks guys for any help you can give me and please take note anyone who doesn't already know, DO NOT PUT A TIRE WITH A DIFFERENT DIAMETER ON THE DRIVING WHEELS!!
