Question for all of you with the 2013 E63 on Reliability.............
Hi Im in the market again for another car and have been a previous Benz owner but ended up going to BMW for a while now. Im considering of picking up a 2013 E63 and wanted to know what to expect with these cars? Any major issues with these years? Even considering the 2012 as well. Would love to pick up the 2014 but there still up there in price. If anyone can tell me the problems associated with the 2012 and 2013 would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you will check these out. Also curious is there much DIY'ers out on the MB world? Was looking around online and didn't see much info on replacing things like water pumps, etc....

Are the 2013 + models also prone to the timing chain issue? Im hearing mixed reviews. I know that the previous I believe the 2011 and lower models had this issue but was resolved on the later. Can anyone confirm this?

Timing chain issue was fixed on 2014 and up. 2013 still had the issue.

Not an expert by any means, just what I have found reading up on the chain issue. My Brother in Law has a PP '13 E63 and it has the updated chain, for example...

I'm not so sure it as clean as that - it seems (from my looking) like the 2013s and '12s with Performance Package (similar to S Model) got the HD chain and the multi-plate chain "may" be in the non-Performance models. I say May, because even our early build '13 E550 (built around Oct '12) has the new chains, but did have the non-M157 tensioners, which have just been updated. One of the You Tube gurus (is there such a thing?!) says the newer chain wasn't fully in place until MY '16 as he has seen both chain sets in M157s up through '15s. Best thing to do is learn what to look for and take off the oil fill cap and do a visual on any prospective car you are considering...

So Im going to be looking at a 2014 E63 in the next few days and was wondering if theres anything I should be aware of on these? Ill open up the oil cap and check the timing chain as I do know what the difference was on links but other than that is there anything else I should be looking for? The car does have over 100k so thats another concern I have to keep in consideration. Any heads up would be great!
