slow shifting

Is there a way to speed up the shifting on these cars? Feels like eternity when compared to my Porsche PDK. I know it can never match the PDK but a little quicker would be nice.

I think you will just have to get used to it.

Agree, compared to the PDK, the E63 shifts like an econobox.

The actual shifting action on our cars is actually quite fast in S+ and M modes. What's bad is the latency between paddle input and the start of the shift. Coming from a manual transmission, I miss the immediate control.

That is a better way of saying what I said.

As if there is a carrier pigeon carrying the message to shift from the paddle to the transmission.

Have you reset adaptations? This won't solve all the issues, but it does tend to bring some crispness back into the transmission shifts, at least for a little while. It won't help with latency however..

I reset adaptations and it does feel better but yes the latency is what's bothering me. That DTUK website claims 40% quicker shifts but i don't think that'll effect the latency.

Yea, I doubt there's anything that can be done about the paddle input latency. I think it's just due to the older design of the underlying planetary auto transmission. I wish they would've put in the outstanding ZF 8spd auto. That thing is nearly as responsive as a good dual-clutch, handles more torque, and can launch better via brake-boosting. Oh well, can't have everything I guess.

Best way to do this?
of course taking it to the dealership, but I'd like to do this on my own if possible.

Do you know if they improved the shifting for the W213 E63S 9-speed versus the W212 7-speed. I’m in the market for a new sedan and narrowed it down to (used) W212 E63S, W213 E63S, and F90 M5C. I hate slow response and shifting cars. I currently have a 7-speed manual 911 which shifts when I want it to shift (obviously) as well as a pretty responsive 8-speed auto Audi S4. Getting rid of the S4 as I just “need” a V8 again!
thanks

You can reset adaptations via STAR for starters....
The easiest way I've found is to disconnect the battery over night (not sure how long is truly needed but overnight works) to reset the ECU.
Others have used this method.....
