Coolant temp question 107C 224F
Hi,
Hoping for some help. My 2012 E63 coolant temp on the digital display doesn't go above 94C (201F) but on the Dash Command/ Torque Pro app it will get to 107C (224F) after driving and then hitting traffic/idling - the main cooling fan kicks in at around 97C (206F) or so, but doesn't appear to spin particularly quickly or make a great deal of noise unlike other cars. Is this normal? it definitely won't go above 107C (224F) but this seems unnecessary to me to get that high. As soon as you drive off and get some air flow it drops back to the 90s. Abiient temps here have been quite high for the UK, around 25/26C approx 80F.
Many thanks!

I've found my coolant temps on the dash hit +87C/190F within 2-3 minutes of driving. But, rarely creep past 107C/220F.
If your coolant is touching 115C/240F, that's when you should be concerned.
107C/220F isn't something to be too worried about

I wonder if there is something I should be looking into then.
Normally my temp howers around 90+ C, and if I drive hard, or drive aggresive then it can go up to 112C.
I wonder if I should be looking at upgrading the cooling system, better coolant, etc.

I also use Dashcommand app and it always reports a slightly higher coolant temperature number than what’s displayed on the dash board but it’s never been more than 5-10 deg max higher

As I understand it, manufacturers program the dash coolant temp gauge not to read above a certain deg C, in our case with the w212, 94c.
The thinking behind this is not to alarm the owners that their car may be overheating when reading 107c.
Obviously when you connect something that reads the temp directly, you get a higher reading.
I think most manufacturers have been doing this since early 2000's when I suppose digital dash readouts became common.

Thanks all, it looks like it's in the normal temperature range then.
I know modern engines are supposed to run hot but it just seems strange the fan speed doesn't increase a little to keep the temps below 100C as I'm sure it is achievable, possibly the fan would speed up if the temps were to rise anymore? - there are a lot hotter places than the UK!
Cheers.
