The difference the correct tire makes
My car is typically shod in the stock 19" rims the car came with.
For the fronts I'm running the stock Pirelli PZeros. For the rear I am running Toyo Proxes R888r's in 295/30R19.
For this run the tires were all around 38 psi.
Note the DA and 60ft. Pretty respectable given the conditions.
Two nights later, Dave was back out testing, but this time with tires/rims off the Stage 2 E70/TCU car.
While we left the fronts alone, the car now sported MT streets in 305/35R18 on TSW Nurburgring Rims.
Proof is in the pudding as they say.
Note the DA did us no favors on either night...
I gained a tenth in the quarter, and a tenth in my 0-60.
I was also tantalizingly close to the 1.5X 60' I was hoping for.
The tires were at 38psi to mimic street performance. I'm sure if the tire pressure had been dropped we would have netted the mythical 1.5.
f you are serious about maximizing your 1/4 mile performance... look to tires as one of the key components. I will be buying a set for the track in the fall.
I have Conti dws
