Weird DRL Issue

Hi All,

Am stumped!
I have a really strange DRL issue in my W212 E250 (2015) model.
Both headlights are working fine, except the DRL in the passenger-side headlight unit.

During the day, when I unlock the car, the passenger side DRL doesn't come on, but the driver side does.
When I start the engine, the situation stays the same and I have a warning on my dash saying there is a DRL issue.

When it gets dark, in the evening and at night, when I unlock the car, both DRL lights come on and seem to work fine.
However when I start the engine, the left DRL turns off and I get the warning on the dash saying there is a DRL issue.

Can anyone help?

Is it a ballast issue? If so which? Is it something else? Does anyone know if it's possible to fix myself?

Am in Hounslow, West London and need to find someone that won't rip me off just to find out the issue. Headlights are going for around £900 mark on ebay :'(

Sounds like a relay issue, but I have no idea. Good thing is there are two lights, so perhaps try swapping parts (relays, bulbs, control module?) between the two and see if the problems switch sides.

Are the parts between the left and right sides interchangeable? Is the relay easy to get to? Will try myself if possible.

No idea, just spitballing ideas with you. I would assume “yes” as I don’t see any reason why a left or right headlamp would be different from the other but I’m always surprised.

If a new headlamp is 900 pounds and a dealer visit is another 300 pounds, then swapping out relatively cheap parts like a relay may make a lot of sense as a first option. But you obviously have to be comfortable with electrical diagrams and basic electric to trace this out and not fry something!

Good luck!
