HAS anyone ever had engine issue related to changing oil by MB book?
That is only attributed to said oil change interval and not MB crappy design?
Yes, there have been failures around the oil change intervals but, from my best recollection, it's only on the diesel engines. The extra long intervals cause sludging and then the sludging leads to blocked oil passageways which leads to oil starvation which leads to failure. I've never heard of this happening on the MB gas engines using the proper MB recommended synthetic oil and fleece oil filters.
Do not agree with the not great at anything comment. They make, for the most part, wonderfully styled cars with great ergonomics that are also very safe. I've found that, if you never ever buy the first few years of any MB's so you can see how they perform and if there are any issues, you can skip the models with issues. I've had very good luck with MB's, for the most part, and have had to rely on their safety features to protect my family. The MB's involved in wrecks, so far, have performed very well. The MB's that have never been reliable are those S class models equipped with ABC suspension.
I had a lowly 2005 C230 back in the day when Mercedes was recommending 13,000 mile intervals and the only filters available were paper cartridges. I had the oil analyzed at every change by Blackstone, and my intervals ranged from a short 12,400 to a long 13,800. Blackstone recommended me run 15,000 miles on every report. The reports came back perfect every time through the time I got rid of the car at 150,000 miles.
Follow MB's guidance. They engineered the car.
