Aftermarket reverse camera options?

Hi all,

My reverse camera decided to stop presenting an image this weekend gone. No faults exhibited by the system, just a blank screen. Part number 212-820-27-97-64.

The cost of the part in AU through a dealer is roughly $1,400 AUD. Pretty absurd for what is a low quality image on the prefacelift model.

Curious to know if anyone has swapped the camera for one of the various aftermarket ones available and has feedback to share? I'm not after an upgrade, just a clean swap to a new working camera with the same connector without paying the dealer/OEM tax.

Cheers.

A quick search shows several reverse cams available at eBay USA from $120 used to $280 new with shipping to AU another $20 or so. You can repair this much cheaper than the dealer quoted. Hope this helps.

I think a big part of the cost might be the calibration if you have the 360 camera. This way the image stitches together seamlessly for the 360 view. I had asked the dealer to look at my front camera because it wouldn’t come up all the time. I was wondering why installing a <$200 dollar camera costed 900-1k. They charged me I think $160 to look at this. Went home, wiggled the harness a bit, maybe pushed the connector in maybe a bit and voila....camera hasn’t given me any problems in over a year.

I too am interested. Always wished you can do a simple swap for a higher quality camera....if you find something please share. I think it’s also related to poor nighttime reverse lighting...day time is really clear.

Thanks to those that chimed in.

Started pulling the tailgate apart last night to check the camera. Ran out of room in the garage and decided to back it out. Started the car and put it in reverse - camera came back to life. Short of a little nudge, didn't do much. Will keep an eye on it. Dumb luck.

anyone have any ideas on how to add front camera? my wagon doesn't have surround camera option but have it on my C63 and RR and love the front camera - especially when nosing in to parking spots with a block - any ideas/suggestions?
