2010/2011 E63 exhaust note
Presently I am driving a GLE63 2016 with the U21 performance exhaust which is phenomenal. Quiet when needed but very loud and crackling when wanted.
I am considering hopping back into a sedan though and the E63 2011 with the last year of the M156 6.2l really has always been in my heart due to its roots in a true AMG engine from the ground up and they don’t make those anymore (non turbo).
Test drove a 2010 yesterday and was underwhelmed by the exhaust volume. Yes when flooring and reving it out it’s quite sweet but otherwise rather insulated/subdued and most importantly the drive mode selector has no influence on the sound. I guess the older 7g transmission also does not rev match on down shifts.
Could remove the catalytic converter, x pipe etc. of course but those things tend to move the sound from the refined AMG note to a less desirable something.
thanks for your comments
Just wanted to pick your brain if I am missing something? Not sure if U21 was an option on the facelift W212 around 2014-2016 but that would be a turbo engine, with the newer 7G of course.
