We all know, the markets nuts, not really voicing an opinion on that.
I was looking through a bunch for sale ads (cars, cargurus, autotrader etc), and am getting frustrated at the wagons in particular.
Even though all cars are up, Ive noticed the list price seems pretty close (if even actually below) the auction sites like BaT and CnB.
But with the wagons, its way off. The ask are way high, and the auctions results are low.
There is a guy on FB asking $75k for wagon with 100k miles lol.
I went back and took snap shots of all the s212 on both main auction sites in the last 18mo or so and I believe only 2 actually broke $70k, the red one with CCB and one with 19k. The rest of the 30-60k milers were all in the 50s to mid 60s (i didnt even look at the higher mileage ones.)
Ive actually seen a lot of these are auctions are actually bought be dealers who jack up thee price and re-sell them. My hunch is this is causing others to list there cars for fear-of-missing-out.
Understandable, but frustrating as a serious buyer. I'll likely be buying one from an auction I guess.
A bunch of those are in Canada, or were Canadian cars already in the USA.
Easy profits on those
Good catch, that could be an great explanations.
Theres are to semi local wagons here.. ones is 75k miles, guy wants $65k. and another with 58k, guy wants $63K. Looks like $63k can get me one with 30-40k miles on Bat.
That would be CRAZY! I've always wanted to drive a V12 AMG just to see how it differs from the V8 bi-turbo.
SO, MB seems to have kept the form factor similar on all their engines, So Im pretty sure a m279 could be fitted into a w212 with little effort. However, even tho i have the xentry and vediamo, I dont think coding is going to be easy, or even possible. It actually seems easy to select m278,m157, m97 etc (all the normal engines for swaps) but there is no m275/279 option.
I then tried to see if the IGW or CGW were shared between the w212 and the w222, thinking maybe you could just flash the central gateway and it would then allow more engine options, but the w222 uses a different gateway.
It appears historically, barabus made a one off e65, but good luck finding out how they handled the computer aspects of it.
darn.
the sl65 I was looking at, the owner just raised his price on me. darn again
found a dirt cheap '11 e63 with only 61k miles. the SN of the m156 is after the headbolt issue range, but not a wagon, or awd, or turbo, or a facelift etc....sigh

You could however add a weistec blower and have something that's not all that common (lots of c63s but rarely done on e63s)
How cheap we talking? It might be fun to have a blown m156 e63.
I am definitely in the FOMO crowd. Sell now for $55-60K or $40K 12 months from now.
I'm trying to turn over a new leaf in my life, my track record of buying high and selling low is brutally consistent.
Ha, if you think that's bad, you should see my Robinhood account lol

2011, 61k, $22k. I was thinking a couple month to year interm car to flip as we see what's happening the rest of the year with the crazy high prices on all cars.
If there really is a 40% "bubble" that pops. I'd rather it pop while owning a 20k car one of those $170k w213 wagons list in the classified on this site lol.

But I still really want a w212 wagon or sl65.
That's a GREAT price in today's market. If you don't mind sharing that link or line I might buy it for myself if you don't!
I bought my w212 e63 pretty low, a lot of guys and girls buying now will be very upset when it's time to move on post-pandemic pricing wise.

Then it means my wagon with 97k miles might be worth $60k in a non-inflated market.
Hell, if someone walked up to me today and said: "here's $60k for your wagon", I'd take it.
I think the people making out like bandits in this market are the ones with higher mileage on the cars. They actually got use out of the car and are still getting serious money for it. I'm loosely Ford Raptor shopping and dumbfounded at 100k mile Raptors going for $50k. What.
I'm in similar mindset as OP. I bought a clean well maintained 2011 for mid-20s to act as a fun gap vehicle until the market corrects itself. Not what I wanted but the market on all 14+ is too inflated.
I ended up walking away from the 2011 with 61k.
To many.... maybe not "red flags" but certainly a bunch of 'dark orange' flags (if you know what i mean) lol for me to think its worth it the risk
PM me if you want details
There were no m156 212 wagons unfortunately. I wish there were though.
Crazy how no one wanted to buy my wagon for 60k 14 months ago. I'm sure glad I didn't sell though. Likely worth 80-100 now.
it's definitely interesting that the bat cars are selling quite a bit lower than advertised asking prices on wagons though. Albeit still much higher than a year ago.
Yes but its the most expensive wagon ever sold. Almost double the standard e63 msrp. Either way I'm glad I kept it because I adore it.
I remember trying to buy yours before i found my '14. I thought we were a bit higher than 60k, otherwise i probably would have.
Anyway, yours is quite special no doubt, slightly different specialist with in a specific genre, love it.
Back to the Facelfts:
I know i linked a bunch of 19-50k mileage up above, the higher mileage ones are in the 40s 71k miles 48k a
d 79k for 51k I'
yet if you look on car .com and autotrader, people are still asking $65k+
