It wasn't operating properly. I tried to fix it, it was cold, I was impatient and snapped some little piece off that's an eyelet for one of the plastic arms that makes the magic unfold
Might I add that I’m not 100% sure color match on leather will be spot on. I had plastic engine cover replaced and purchased from factory and their paint colors don’t match either. So I’d prob confirm with them if you do go ahead and replace the entire armrest assembly
seems like the whole plastic construct is glued to the leather bound piece... itll
be easier to pry apart with the armrest out of the car and also you can start with the soft liner in the tray, that pushes down and out to expose foam and easier access to separate the laminated leather piece and plastic construct
alternatively you may be able to lure the functional cup holder pieces away from the eBay track and then install onto your existing track and that'll be the easier task with best outcome
they also sell this
for as low as $200
shipped ... this one is listed as "black interior" - you could simply remove this arm rest and replace with yours

Update
Couldn't figure out any way to transfer the cupholder (or any) of the armrest over without butchering everything. So now I'm on the lookout for a black armrest, or that whole rear seat LOL.
I'T Guy did you ever figure out how to replace just the armrest? Do you have to remove the whole seat to do it?
Sorry I never figured it out.
I stopped when the used one I bought was beige, and the guts 100% could not be transfered.
It looked to me like where they cut it off the car to ship to me, I could not do the same on my car - seems to me the best bet is to get the whole seat back that includes it like the one PeterUbers posted in post 15
Maybe, back up and try to repair the broken part. I've repaired lots of plastic car and motorcycle bits. Do you have a pic of the damaged part? Ether of you.
I thought about replacing the part that I need but I cannot buy the part only. So I bought the while armrest. I thought about removing the piece from the new one and putting it in the old one but I am unsure. It has to go into a groove that I can't seem to pull the new on out of and it requires a pin that I am unsure if it will seat well. I am just not sure. It seems like it should just come out of the groove. See the image. I pointed an arrow to the part that is broken. The cup holder, to the right, flips back over to the left. I circled the a slot the arm moves in and circled the pin, opposite side, that I would need. It seems like it would be fairly simple to pop the pin and wrangle the arm out. But I can concerned with breaking something and having to buy a whole new rest again.
I am also an idiot as I was thinking the seat was one continuous piece. In my case the left seat folds down and I think I can remove one part and be able to replace the arm rest. We'll see. I may still have to remove the left seat to do it.

I have the same problem and purchased a replacement armrest from eBay for my 2014 E350 4matic sedan. Problem is that I cannot figure out or find instructions on how to remove the existing one to replace the used one I bought.
