2014 e63s oil on garage floor

Hi All,

I noticed oil on my garage floor today so I decided to have a look around dusks for areas. Mercedes only serviced it 3 weeks ago and a good I dependant did gear oil change 4 weeks ago and there were no signs of leaks.

so quite suddenly it’s leaking to the point it’s all over the bottom of the underside catch tray and now dripping onto my garage floor (albeit 3 small drops)

I have had a look around the valve timing covers and couldn’t find anything around the top. But where the oil filter housing is I found evidence (pictured) of oil leaking.

are the filter housings known to be an issue or is it more likely the valve cover leaking into the housing from a spot that I can’t see without taking it apart.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thank you for reading

I bet they made a mess doing the oil change and not an actual leak. I'd clean all the oil up best as possible, rags/parts cleaner spray and wide down the catch tray panels underneath the car and see if its really a leak or just sloppy oil change.

It is on the filter side though and it has been a few weeks now.

Have you looked under the camshaft solenoids? They could be leaking on your car?

i haven’t yet as I can’t get access.

I have check the oil level this morning and it is 2mm above max despite losing a fair bit.

so the MB dealership clearly overfilled it. I’d there so sort of release valve to dump oil if over pressurised?

Either way there is definitely a correlation between it being over filled and the springing a leak.

Quick update:

I have located the leak to be either the upper timing chain cover or potentially oil filter housing.

The motor has 150k kms on it so whilst I’m in there fixing this I was thinking of changing the following:-Water Pump

Water Pump metal gasket

Thermostat

Thermostat O-ring

Thermostat elastomer

Camshaft Position Sensor x4

Camshaft Solenoid O-rings x 4

Oil Filter Hosing main real seal and o ring

Oil filter housing temperature regulator

Oil filter housing regulator cap

Oil filter housing regulator spring

Guide Pulley with Tensioner

Guide Pulley

Guide Pulley

Idler Pulley

Oil Cooler seal with carrier (next to oil filter housing)

Timing Chain cover Gasket
Valve Cover Gasket

is there anything else I should do whilst in these areas? Likewise is there anything I’ve listed there which is unnecessary that could easily be replaced later on in the event of failure?

any input would be greatly appreciated.
