Exploring winter tire options. 16' CLS63S with stock 19" wheels (IDK the stock wheel specs for the w212 e63 but I'm sure many you have some knowledge on this)
F - 9jx19 et37 with 255/35/19 summer contis
R - 10jx19 et47 with 285/30/19 summer contis
I have leftover pirelli winter sottozero 3 tires from a w204 c63 in great shape
F - 235/35/19
R - 255/35/19
Stock rear tire on the c63 was a 30 series also. Many people did not know if changing the height to a 35 series would causes issues with sensors/abs/etc.. But I tried it and there were no problems...
Is a 255 on a 10" rim a big stretch? What about increasing sidewall on this car? Anyone have experience? Calculator has the speedo pretty close
As for increasing sidewall on these AWD cars. My car came with 245/40/19 F and 275/35/19 R. A size narrower and a size taller than stock front and back. The car drove fine. I dunno as for speedo error. Also dunno if that inflicted any damage to 4MATIC system. There are members on here who have stepped up the sidewall size evenly front and back running 20s and they seem to be doing fine.
You should check the load rating for those sottozero 3s as I doubt they meet the requirements for the heavy E63.
Overlooked that. I see 96 for the front and 98 for the rear on the CLS63. Sotto 3 are rated 91 for 235/35/19 which would be for the fronts. Think I need to look for a different brand
I wanted to try Vredestein wintrac pro. Great price on tire rack. Alpina pa4 offers the oem size I need but it appears to be discontined and limited availablity. Set of 4 going for 1800$
I am running Nokian R3s and am very happy with them, in a square setup. (255 width).
Great in snow/slush/packed snow/wet roads and decent on ice. Better than the X-ice 3 on ice, once you lose traction, the Nokians seem to get traction back quicker. The R3 are not as good as the X-ice SNOWs on ice, but better in slush.
