The road to 200mph – World Record at a sanctioned 1 Mile Event – 201.3 mph!
This past weekend, car owner Jesse Langston, drove his 2016 E63S into the record books.
They say it takes a team to achieve anything worthwhile and that the journey is half the battle. This past weekend’s 201.3 mph blast from a standing start was the culmination of this team work. Ever since Jesse approached me for advice on building his car, The Texas Mile was one of his goals.
As the program manager for this build, this thread is as much a way to document this achievement as it is to thank all the players responsible for help with this build.
I’d like to single some of them out here:
BoostedBenz – Lisa and Jose were at the epicenter of this build and provided us with world class hardware and support. They are the US agents for BlackBoost and also provide access to the EDOK TCU tunes. From this build they are offering a Stage 5 package which provides all the hardware and software necessary to replicate Jesse’s results. They also provide the all-important hardware from the following suppliers. https://www.boostedbenz.com/pages/boosted-benz-bundles If you want to go fast, they have a range of “stages” that allows the enthusiast to reach their goals in steps as budget allows.
BlackBoost – BB 950 turbos, BlackBoost Intakes and Silicon Tubes, and BoostedBenz engine mounts. These turbos, when coupled with the best supporting hardware and tuners flat out works. The intakes are an absolute must and have proven time and again they help make power in the higher RPMs on a tuned car by increasing airflow into the turbos. BoostedBenz, above, are the US agents for this hardware. https://www.blackboostusa.com/
Xtreme-DI (XDI) – HPFP’s. Uwe Osterman is the owner of XDI, and a former Bosch engineer. The deep knowledge he possesses is evident in the quality and performance of his hardware. When striving for 200mph you need the best hardware coupled with the best software to get you there.
ProMeth – When running a car at sustained boost for 25 seconds things get hot. Not least of these are your IAT’s. When your intake temps start to climb, any tune worth its salt will start to pull timing and boost to protect the engine. The down side is of course we start to lose power. Not something we want when trying to maximise performance. The Meth when injected into the charge air stream does an admirable job of cooling the charge air and keeping temps in a safe range, allowing the tune to operate at peak performance. https://prometh.com/
ECC – Slav’s unrivaled tuning prowess for the M157 Platform was fully on stage this past weekend when we took a full weight W212 E63S down the runway and turned the fastest speeds of the event for a Mercedes. Slav absolutely has these tunes dialed in for the M157 platform, and specifically for Big Turbo applications. We are going to the dyno in December to quantify what we already know…. This car is making serious power. Slav is able to extract this performance safely and take advantage of all the aftermarket mods. We’ll do a thread after the dyno. https://www.ecctuned.com/
EDOK – TCU tune. EDOK are the recognized expert in this space and we are very fortunate to continue to have access to this Transmission Software through Jose and Lisa at BoostedBenz. We are now able to remote tune trackside with the help of Jose. Because of this improved access we are able to tweak Transmission performance. http://www.edok-performance.de/ If wanting to engage EDOK, your best bet is to go through BoostedBenz.
Legacy Motorworks – Matt Chen and crew. These guys are a great group of guys and located in Houston. They installed the majority of the hardware under a very tight schedule and were able to get us on the road in the Spring prior to the Spring Running. A 20mph headwind in the spring meant we weren’t going to be setting any records that season. We’d have to wait until the fall and more favorable conditions for that.
Dave and Adam – EC ATX. When you have effectively double the horsepower of a stock car, increased maintenance requirements and faster wearing parts are part of the landscape. This build is no different. When Jesse was driving down to Beeville Thursday evening he started having drivability issues. We decided to flatbed the car to Dave and Adam in Round Rock, Tx to have them figure out the issue. They jumped on it and spent all Friday working on the car to the detriment of their scheduled work, ensuring they would spend another weekend in the shop playing catchup with back log. I can’t speak higher than I do about these guys. If you have automotive performance issues – do yourself a favor and just have them fix it. Their hard work and passion allowed me to get the car down to the event a day later, but ready to perform. What was the issue? A failing #4 injector caused the O2’s to fail, causing the drivability issue. Within 7 hrs they had diagnosed the issue, replaced the O2’s and the Injectors, did a spark plug change and an oil change and sent me on my way. Amazing effort from that team. This thread would not exist if it wasn’t for their efforts and we would not have run otherwise.
Now on to the pics and videos.
Here’s the obligatory glamour shot. Complements of Stinger Auto Photography.
He has some fantastic photos which will be shared later.
World record draggy run
Note the draggy data from the run, in particular the ~1100 DA. Not optimum weather for a top speed run, but beggars can’t be choosers. From a 800 rpm roll on launch on an unprepped surface, the ¼ mile time is low, but on par for the environment. The wheel spin from second to third also impacted the 5.8 60-130 time, but it’s obviously moving!
Here’s the draggy video. Enjoy.
Official Speed Slip
And authenticated proof of the performance from the sanctioning body, The Texas Mile.
What follows is a post run video after Jesse had collected his speed slip. They don’t make painters tape to withstand 200 mph I guess. LOL
Satisfied customers....
On the drive back to the staging lanes after the world record run. Full interior makes the drive comfortable.
Boosted Benz in da House....
Boosted Benz made the trek out from Tennessee again for the Fall running. Besides providing much needed shade in the trailer, Jose from Blackboost/Boostedbenz was running his own GLC63 at the mile. That thing comes out of the hole like no other… arguably one of the hardest launching vehicles at the event.
Official New Record… Jesse held the previous record as well.
Next stop, the quarter mile. We’d be lying if we said that the M157 W212 record was not in our sights.
We are now prepping for the ¼ mile, and the ability to work with both Slav and EDOK synergistically to really dial in this cars performance is a serious game changer for us.
Performing a TCU remote tune trackside.
There will be a separate thread following that event. Fingers crossed the performance gods look favorably on us at that event.
In closing, thank again to all our venders who became our friends. The best team in the business is backing Jesse and I’m excited to see what we can do in the quarter.

The proof will be in the pudding when we dyno it in December, but given that it is a full fat E63S running 305 rears and zero aero mods with full interior, to hit 200 mph we are definitely knocking on 1000 awhp.
I'm going on record as saying I expect to see 970 awhp when we dyno it. I'm prepared to be labelled optimistic though and will wait to see what the dynojet says.
When we dyno'd it in the spring on a mustang with a dynojet correction of ~930 awhp, the salty boys questioned it. We've tweaked the tune somewhat since then.
